| Tholen is toast at this point. The fact that Platenberg said tonight they won’t do a new renovation queue until 2025 means Dranesville will almost certainly vote out Democrats on both the School Board and Board of Supervisors in the next election. Could tip some of the at-large seats as well. |

It looks like Laura Jane did not pay off, i mean contribute to Steve Descano's campaign.
I've posted here a few times that Elaine donated $2,344 to Steve's campaign. I was wrong. She did not donate $2,344 to Steve's campaign. She donated $2,594 to Steve's campaign. Just want to give her full credit. |
+1. |
She wants to be back on soil and water anyway. |
That’s ridiculous. McLean CLEARLY needs an EXPANSION! |
My understanding of all of this was that during the McLean boundary process, when Elaine made her moves in the late stages of the process, she got agreement from other board members that they would support getting McLean in the reno q in the CIP in January 2023, just before she is up for reelection. If Platenberg said no new q until 2025, I agree that would be a bad sign for Elaine. |
Is this the part where we’re supposed to pretend she cares and previously struck some great deal for McLean? She is a flaky snob who does not care about any schools other than Langley and TJ. |
Honestly, if that entire precinct gets moved to Lewis then frankly I think Lewis would suddenly become a pretty competitive school. The 200 UMC Lewis kids that normally pupil-place away from Lewis each year would likely return as well, which would give it an even bigger boost. Hell, it would nearly give the remaining WSHS a run for it's money. |
If true, it would be too little too late. She got on the board in Jan 2020 and did nothing to actually fix overcrowding at McLean - putting McLean on the renovation queue in 2023 would essentially mean any renovation would not be complete until what, maybe 2028? 2029? At that point, we will need a new high school in the Tysons area, so a renovation at McLean will be irrelevant. |
They got 20% of the voters to sign. |
| Elaine is done for. |
It was quite telling that, during Jeff Plattenburg’s presentation on the CIP tonight, she didn’t ask about the timing of a new renovation queue or raise the timing of an addition at McLean. Rather, her only question related to clarifying that FCPS’s plans are only to build one, not two, new high schools in western Fairfax (the CIP materials were ambiguous). The new western high school, of course, is a major cause of concern for some Langley families in Great Falls; were FCPS to build two new high schools in that area, Great Falls would have a total meltdown. And, of course, she went out of her way to point out the one planned high school is still mostly unfunded at this point. She really revealed who she cares about, and who she doesn’t care about. She’s shallow and snobby, and the best one can probably do at this point is just make sure she never gets elected to public office again. |
One term was always her plan. I bet soil and waters meetings don’t run nearly as long and people pay them little attention so she can play in Difficult run and catalog wild mushrooms in Riverbend and write reports on the brown tailed floofy floos effect on woodland ground cover. |
If Tysons continues to grow then a McLean expansion as the expansion of Falls Church finishing up will be a good idea, as newly expanded Madison may need some relief at that point. Still, it’s preferable to get McLean enlarged sooner. |
Wow that is interesting. im sure mcspaces is trying to work her over again, push her to put MHS on the reno q. If she get MHS on the reno q, then Im guessing it will be what, 10-12 years before a new high school will open? If she gets money for a reno without putting MHS on the reno q, she will simply prove what a true liar she is given her comments during the boundary change that the reno q was the first step before funding If she is more concerned about the poor rich folks in GF having to go to school with kids from...ugh...HERNDON... then she will not likely expend much strength to push for a reno for MHS. She set herself up for a true no-win. Which ever path she picks above, she will alienate a significant block of those who voted for her in the past. Add that to the 5000+ who are already not voting for her, and the small minority like myself who did not vote for her in the first place, then she will lose even if she is the only one on the ballot. This will be fun to watch. |
