This interview made me hate meghan markle. I had no dog in the fight before it aired. She is terrible. |
+1 I feel like there is one poster making every single issue about race and it is tiresome. And inaccurate. |
Someone on the BBC said it right, I think: “Some people simply don’t understand that this is all about the direct line of succession and really all about the Queen. Some of the lesser royals don’t seem to understand that if they have a problem with it, the household does not care, because the entire system revolves around the Sovereign.” |
That's a weird reaction to someone saying that she was suicidal. |
If you were indifferent to her before the interview, what specifically changed your mind? Just curious. |
Did anyone in your family warn you not to “darken your family”? That was an innocent comment told to my relative who married a WOC. |
NP, but for me it’s her naivety (or supposed naivety). Just one example: “I didn’t research the royal family before marrying Harry because I thought I knew celebrity.” What? They aren’t like Hollywood: UK Edition. That tells me she’s either totally dense, totally naive, or thinks we’re dense/naive enough to believe she actually thinks that. |
They told Harry for her to get a job before the chose to step back, while she was pregnant. Also, if something tragic happened to William and his dad, does Harry get skipped all together? |
Yes, this is it. And Harry didn't seem to care much about it, in fact seemed to enjoy his relative freedom, until he marries an American and she really does care. |
My thoughts exactly! |
Since the reign of Elizabeth's father, it would make him a prince once Charles becomes king. |
The line of succession goes through the first born’s family and children before it touches the second born. So it goes: Charles (as Elizabeth’s first child) William (as Charles’ first child) George (William’s first child) Charlotte (William’s second child) Louis (William’s third child) Then and only then do we get to Harry, Archie, and Harry’s unborn daughter. Of course, should William and Kate have any other children, they would be higher up in the line of succession than Harry. |
I think that the interview is very American-centric and presents the situation through the lens of American standards of behavior, culture, and progress, if you will. |
Yes. George is next in line after William. If he's not of age, historically there's been a regent. And I believe that would be Harry in this case. But once George is of age, Harry would be out again. |
100%. And many Americans don’t seem interested in understanding how royal protocol works. It’s sort of the height of arrogance to think you can waltz into an institution that is hundreds of years old and expect it will just bend to your will and sensibilities. |
