I don't mean to make it into a competition, but it got really tiring a week ago when people were constantly posting about how SOME homes in Del Ray flooded, and they don't know how people could live in a place like this with rivers, etc, but having zero idea of just how much torrential the rain was in such a short period of time. And I guarantee the same people sh!tting on Del Ray experiencing flooding are the same people who are now like: "omg, so much rain!" 2" in an hour, or 4-5" in a day is nothing. Laughably nothing. That said I sincerely hope everyone and their home is safe and without damage. |
Well, I certainly wasn’t one of the ones saying that. And “laughably nothing,” by your standards, can indeed do damage. The last bad storm we had here in Crofton, there wasn’t that much rain, but the winds whipped through and took down many trees, including one going across my neighbors’ long, shared driveway, and a few near our school. I’m glad no one was hurt. Someone easily could have been. Someone easily could be later today, if there are more storms. My friends in Hyattsville and Elliott City might have some thoughts about your flooding and damage. See how it’s all relative? |
Well, I’m the CT poster and despite living 12 years of my life in DC I’d never heard of Del Ray (I’m guessing you mean the neighborhood of Alexandria and not Delray Beach in FL?), so that wasn’t me. 5” of rain in a day is a lot, especially after the soaking we got last weekend. Of course 5” in a hour is even crazier, how much rain did you get outside of that hour? I typically live in Brooklyn, NY and we had major flash floods and about 4” in an hour last Saturday, which was intense. This has been such a rainy/cool summer, kind of a bummer all around. Obviously the absolute worst for people badly impacted by the storms, but not pleasant for us all. |
I am sorry for our Maryland neighbors and Pennsylvania as a whole, but it does seem like NoVA and the immediate DC region is getting the least of this rain. |
Are you the person who thinks everyone is jealous of people that live in Del Ray? |
This is just a reprieve.
Tons more rain coming starting in the afternoon today that will go on into tomorrow. I think the.news guy the other day predicting up to 7" of rain was most correct. Crazy we already got 2-4" in only like 45 minutes. Many reports all across the area of bad flooding. |
I don't think everyone is jealous of living in Del Ray. But I'm not sure what kind of person would insert themselves into a conversation about home damage from very severe weather in a neighborhood they don't live in, just to comment negatively on that neighborhood, if they didn't have some envy. |
NP. My goodness, then take it up with THAT POSTER, in that completely different thread. Not one person in this thread had done anything other than report out and commiserate until YOU came along to make this a competition. Grow up. |
The amount of lightning with that storm was incredible. The thunder was super loud and then the lightning kept on for so long. We are in Rockville and whole family was awake. Kids were dragging getting ready for school this AM. |
Nothing in Springfield |
We had nothing in Bowie or nothing that woke us up anyways. |
Still no rain here. |
Uh, I am, in responding to their comment here. |
OMG. Not just that. Insane lightning (lit up the entire house even with black out shades), ear splitting thunder, etc. It woke everyone up. |
Wow. I had no idea this storm happened and no clue how I slept through it. I’m in Rockville, and am the lightest sleeper ever. |
