Knowing Gatehouse if they did this it would be to lecture the PTA on why ST Math is great and we are stupid, not to listen to us on what we as parents actually see and know.

Because does Gatehouse actually ever listen unless there's bad press/media about them? And even then the response is to force schools to generate positive Instagram/Facebook posts...

This was Sloan Presidio's push during COVID and despite complaints, only a few School Board members truly listen to parents and/or educational research! Sadly, Gatehouse could care less about children's experience in my experience.

ST Math is so 2020. Why would any teacher still use it.

Let’s go backwards with the textbooks/workbooks. While ST Math might seem clunky, it does conceptually teach math concepts that helps with modeling math and not just memorizing. Just a different way to approach learning.

The PP is correct. We need to get textbooks and workbooks back. ST Math isn't just "clunky," it's an absolute piece of garbage.

ST math is a piece of trash.
So ridiculous! I wonder whether any FCPS corruption is involved in buying ST math.

Only the laziest teachers use it. It’s not useful to children just a waste of time.

My 4th grader in AAP loves it.

I sincerely wish they would simply bring back textbooks.

ST Math was created by Dr. Matthew Peterson, who struggled with math due to dyslexia and sought a visual alternative to language-heavy instruction. The game-based format removes language, reading, and symbol barriers, making it ideal for special education, English Learners, and diverse learners. It may benefit the users who sharing the same traits with the creator.

Teacher here. This is the first year I am using it since 2020. It is being forced and monitored.

I don’t understand the complaints. There is an evidence base for it being effective, including positive randomized control trial results. My kid happens to love it.
