I am quoted PP. I currently have a 6th grader as well - 2nd grader is my youngest - so I have seen it. |
| My kid stopped doing ST Math two weeks into last year and has not touched it since. |
True. Our AAP math teacher sat to eat a hamburger like a pig during ST math. My kid learned how to talk with her mouth full of lettuce and mayonnaise but while his math level decreased substantially. |
|
| ST math is just a waste of time and money. Kids might as well do some independent reading rather than that stuff. My kids hate it and I hate it. |
Oy, will you let it go that you didn't like the way your kid's teacher ate last year. We all already read about it. Presumably you have a different teacher this year. |
|
I have a kid in 6 grade at an good AAP center last virtual year, her math teacher did not push her students to use ST math, on the contrary, her math teacher taught her students very responsible, showing the math example step by step with hand writing, and assigned many good math problems for students to practice . So my kid got 99% in IAAT and nearly perfect 7th SOL. Many her classmates entered the Algebra 1 now.
My second kid's school teacher let students do ST math for 1 hour everyday . So only several students pass the math SOL in my kid's class this year. |
| A GOOD and RESPONSIBLE teacher will not push her students to use ST math long time everyday . No matter the teacher is in local or AAP center schools. |
|
Please for the love of God, Country and Fellow Human Beings, stop using ST Math and Imagine Learning.
These things are worse than the Taliban. |

Will you ever understand that the main idea in the post is not about how the teacher eats but how erroneous is to use ST Math just to relax and eat a hamburger in the middle of a class? It tells your students you don’t care a single bit if their math level decrease. |
| stop using ST math for students! |
| My son told me his classroom teacher taught them math in person , without using ST math , even not using computer all day. So my son like his teacher very much and enjoy his school time . It really is a good news for parents! |
DP. Your teacher is an exception. What teachers actually use ST Math and other workstations/centers for is to keep kids occupied while they see small groups or individual students. When we were kids, it was worksheets at our desk. The more things change... |
My son said the same thing about his math teacher. No ST Math! There was 1 short session on Khan Academy on one day but the other days the teacher taught to the whole class and the kids did worksheets. He liked it! I don’t know if this will change if and when the teacher starts small groups. But so far my kid is happy with the math teacher. |
