Being ostracized and excluded from the your community is a serious consequence. I didn't say ALL juveniles get less serious consequences. I've said I've seen it happen--meaning people I have actual personal knowledge/experience with. I have no personal knowledge or experience with Kalief Browder. Develop skills for basic reading comprehension and then have a serious conversation. |
| OP here - I feel I need to state it was not my intention for folks to dredge up backstories on the families involved. I posted simply as I thought it was a strange story about teens/teens, and not necessarily one that would be covered on a popular DC news station! |
+1 Yeah, come on people--it's two 11 year olds who broke the door of a Little Free Library box. That's probably 50$ worth of damage. |
| I would be so embarrassed if my kids behaved like delinquents. I certainly wouldn't be whining to the media about how banning from the pool for years is so unfair. There is something wrong with the parents. |
| All you grown adults crying about kids not getting to use a pool is what is wrong with society. No wonder these kids act like this, clearly yours would too. They're coddle and have no sense of respect |
what? |
It was an 11 yo, a 14 yo, and a third unidentified child. I have a 12 yo and would be horrified if they did something like that - definitely wouldn’t fight them being banned from the pool for a summer. |
How about 7 summers? |
the HOAs are not so subtly telling the family of the delinquent to move |
You know that kid has a long history to get that severe a punishment. If it were my kid, I suspect I would have been horrified by their behavior well before now, and would have made sure it didn’t get to this point. |
An 11 year old would be in at least 5th grade, maybe even 6th grade. DS is 8 and just finished 3rd grade, he is one of the younger kids in his class. If the 11 year old was in 4th grade then there is something else going on here. |
| These snowflakes shouldn’t face consequences because banning them from the pool is just as harsh as sending them to jail. I mean, how can they ever recover psychologically from losing neighborhood pool privileges? They will be scarred for life. It’s not like there are other pools around that the parents could join instead. |
| This seems crazy. Have them pay to replace little library and books. Done. This is very petty vandalism. The pool doesn’t have anything to do with what they did. Banning them for years insane and probably unlawful. The parents could and should sue if they enforce this. Pretty sure a court would side with the family, unless there are other documented issues that have been going on |
The pool and the library are HOA property. But I'd love for this family to go to court over this and the HOA to get a police report involved. |
Are there though? Do you live in that area? Because I do (not that specific HOA, but just a few miles away) and I certainly do not know of any other pool they could join close by. Most HOAs have their own pool and do not allow non residents to join. Can you please tell us the name of these "other pools around" that they could join? |
