HOA pool ban for prior vandalism of HOA property

Anonymous
In the news: As a consequence for vandalizing the library on HOA property, the Kingsbrooke HOA has banned two teens from the HOA pool.

HOA guidelines are strict, and it seems they didn’t press charges for the vandalism. But the HOA communicated this ban back in November, and now it is a news story now that pool are open, I guess?

There’s more to this story, probably a history of problematic behavior by the kids/families. The 13 yo banned from the pool for one year, the 11 yo banned until he’s 18? The only reason for different punishments like that is past history of offenses, and probably refusal by the 11 yo’s family to take it seriously.

Yep.

I find it interesting that they punched in the library door and tossed books in the woods but the parents are only paying $125 in fines collectively.

They should be paying $1,000 for the cost to replace the door and the library materials. The fact that they also weren't arrested for destruction of public property?

Anyone notice they were banned from the private pool and the park but their offense was to the public library? Another case of privileged children not getting a record or facing consequences.

I remember when we found out Sarah Palin's son had slashed the tired of school buses on school property in high school, wasn't arrested or punished, then what do you know - 5 years later as an adult he's attacking his father with a gun and has multiple arrest records.

This. Anyway, good for the HOA. It sounds like these two are old enough to follow rules and understand basic safety and they and their parents chose not to. No way should they be around a pool when other guests are present.

this quote says it all about the parents...

“Imagine seven years of your life you can’t go to the pool, you can’t go to the park,” Blue said. “It’s very difficult. It’s going to be a hard summer.”

hope the HOA sticks to its guns and doesn't cave in to public pressure.

Im sure the HOA had verbiage in the covenants that outlines what happens when you engage in bad behavior.

Parents are doing a great job raising model citizens...

Op here— I can’t believe this is a news story, and instead of going to the news to complain, maybe the parents should examine their kids behavior. Expecting community service to be the consequence is pretty entitled as it requires supervision and coordination on someone else’s time.

To clarify: according to NBC4 the boys vandalized a little free library on HOA property, not a public library.

Agreed. There has to be more background regarding the behavior of these boys, especially as the third kid didn’t receive this ban.

There is no library on the HOA grounds. I'm pretty sure they are referring to a small box that contains a few books that you can borrow. Being on the HOA is a thankless job, but this HOA has a couolecmembers who are a PITA. Trespassing a kid for 7 years is just absurd.

What do you want the punishment to be? Banned for 20 years?

+1 on the 7 year ban. That’s really egregious if only based on this one event (unlikely, I know). But the list of other offenses need to be really long for a 7 year punishment.

The parents can coordinate the community service if they wanted — this happened in NOV! Instead they waited until the pools open to complain to the news about the ban and state they wanted community service. It is entitled to expect someone else to coordinate it for their kids.

Hahaha tough on crime guy!

Everyone in my neighborhood growing up would be locked up if they arrested every kid who did stuff like break a $5 door off of what is basically a bird house LMAO
