Kenwood Country Club

Tennis and golf are big draws, and tge swim program is perennially very strong and a lot of fun. Food ranges from ok to actually quite good. The fitness center and indoor pool are fantastic. The new bar is great. The club is privately owned, which is why upgrades can be slow to happen - but they do seem to eventually happen. We belong to KCC and another local club (though that is ending), and the kids prefer to do things at KCC.

BS they are begging.

And facilities are very old, basically a dump. Golf is fine.

OP it's fine if you like Lots of MAGA. Lots of anti semitism.

You’re an idiot.

I’m a Jewish member. No MAGA, no antisemitism. Indoor facilities - particularly pool and gym - are great and fairly new. Tennis facilities are best in the area.

Fitness center/indoor pool is the nicest of any club around. Clubhouse is old and small but traditional. Has what you need plus a fun bowling alley.

Golf course is great, it's no Congressional but we all know that. The vibe of the club is so much less stuffy and much more laid back. They are building an addition to their fitness center with squash, basketball court, golf simulators, paddle tennis, etc. If you live in 20816/20815/20016 there isn't a better option out there.

My biggest compalints are the small driving range and outdated golf lockers.

Another KCC member here. It’s not for you. If you want upgraded everything join Bethesda. It’s a low key club, food is fine, clubhouse is old and meh but also… is fine. We love swim team, tennis, easy to golf quickly (close to our house), indoor pool… it’s family oriented and great for what it is.

And, how much do you pay for "meh"?

That’s what you don’t get. I don’t care about the clubhouse. We like the sports facilities and swim team, tennis teams, golf, and convenience to our house. Honestly if I lived further out I’d probably just belong to our local swim and tennis club but we live where we live and there are no swim/tennis clubs in DC.

This is literally what a person who works at a CC that has credibly been accused of mediocre facilities and anti-semitism woudl say.

What's next? Are you "personally friends with many of them"?

about 70k initial and 12k/yr

What is with these weird YMCA posters? If you don't golf or play tennis, it doesn't make financial sense but equating Kenwood, or any local CC, to a YMCA is absurd. My family golfs most weekends, we are at the pool pretty much daily..our kids are there all day every day in the summer with their friends. They have a fantastic childcare program. If you need to rationalize the cost of a CC, it's not for you

The Y has a pool and childcare.

$12k is not insane—if you use it. The $70k is.

70 amortized over my life and my kid's life is very reasonable given the area

Comparing the Y to a country club is like comparing BCC to Georgetown Prep. Sure, they both get you a high school degree, but one is clearly nicer than the other and people gladly pay 50k a year for that

This MUST be a troll... does anyone else want to smash the low-hanging fruit here, or should I just go for it?

Country clubs have been diverging for a while. One one side are the clubs with lots of interest either because of location or what they have to offer -- golf or otherwise. They are doing just fine. They get more expensive to join every year. Most of these are 100k and over. And higher monthly payments. They get enough people that can afford that they are not all that interested in anyone that can't afford it. They keep improving. Kepp adding new things, updating.

On the other side are the clubs that can't pull this. Almost always the fee is under 100k. Could be great places and right for a lot of people but they have to hustle to get new members. Discounts drive price down so less new things and improvements. Over time these clubs will still keep sliding down. Some, probably like Kenwood or MVCC will find a level that works and willbe fine. Others will drift for years and then close.

What is wrong with some of you? Who really cares why OP wants to join a country club!!!

It's virtual signaling. they think it's cool to attack private clubs. Like liberal sheeple, they can't actually tell you why, they just want to scream at you and cancel you

people just can't comprehend that golf is an expensive sport and requires an expensive membership. There are no public courses within a 30 min drive of my house..particularly during the week. Kenwood is walking distance.
