It depends on your age bracket and what type of membership you have. |
We may be interested as we'd consider a family-friendly club for our three kids as well as golf but don't think we actually know any members (most of our neighbors in Bethesda belong to Congressional or Chevy Chase and/or we have connections to the Edgemoor Club, which of course doesn't have golf). Is it worth just reaching out to the membership office on their website? |
| Yes! I would reach out through their website. They are very friendly and helpful. |
|
What percentage of the membership is not white?
Also, what is the history of Kenwood w/re to anti-Semitism and racism? |
Hard to believe this is OP. If not, stop trolling. |
+1 I've been seeing membership drives for other local clubs including Bethesda |
PP here. I never claimed I was OP. Why is this a "trolling" question? It's a serious concern, if you know anything about the history of country clubs. Or if you care. Just because you don't want to know the answer to these questions doesn't mean they lack legitimacy. |
| Kenwood is always having a membership drive. There was one 2 summers ago and a bunch of people I know joined. |
|
I actually enjoy that they want new members. All clubs want new members even if they act like they don't.
I appreciate Kenwood not trying to be some exclusive club like Chevy |
Investigated in 1977 & found "to be free of discriminatory practices" https://www.washingtonpost.com/archive/local/1977/12/13/bethesda-country-club-to-ease-admission-policy/f99eff82-1a7d-4c13-85ac-88d9f9efabf2/ I haven't done an exhaustive search but am a prospective member & that reassured me a bit. |
| Why not donate money to charitable organizations instead of joining some elite club? Have some compassion for others! |
|
Because I want to play golf
I donate plenty Why don’t you donate your home and go live in a one bedroom out in Derwood? What a ridiculous statement. |
|
Kenwood is great! We’ve really enjoyed our time there. It’s definitely not Congressional but it doesn’t try to be.
For the location and price it can’t be beat. You’ll love it! |
Most of the good clubs you need to know people and they absolutely will not take random calls from people with zero connections to the place. |
My family didn’t belong to a country club. But when I was growing up in DC in the eighties and nineties, I had a couple of Jewish friends at Kenwood. Of course, they may have been tokens. But my uninformed opinion is thwt they were less discriminatory than CCC |
