What is wrong with some of you? Who really cares why OP wants to join a country club!!!

It's virtual signaling. they think it's cool to attack private clubs. Like liberal sheeple, they can't actually tell you why, they just want to scream at you and cancel you

people just can't comprehend that golf is an expensive sport and requires an expensive membership. There are no public courses within a 30 min drive of my house..particularly during the week. Kenwood is walking distance.

Falls Road is definitely less than 30 minutes if you are in walking distance to Kenwood.

Do you carry your clubs when you walk to Kenwood?

Falls road is a dog track compared to kenwood and takes 7 hours to play. It's an hour in the car roundtrip - I don't have time for that.

Seems pretty pedestrian unfriendly area.

To be honest, I live near it but I’d be kind of embarrassed to be a member at Kenwood. Golf course is sub-muni level and driving range is a joke. It’s crazy to me they find suckers to pay for it

Golf is only an expensive sport if you want it to be.

I walk munis and DOD courses using secondhand clubs and balls I find in the woods. I play 36 holes a week and spend less than $2,000 a year on golf.

You should be approached at 25 to join the Met Club, 30 for CCC and then Pine Valley and a great vacation house club (Sankaty, Ocean Forest, Seminole) thereafter. If you have really nailed it, the Links and ANGC might follow as well.

Hahaha. Your 1980 copy of The Preppy Handbook is getting moldy. Nobody is approached to join the Metropolitan Club at age 25. Maybe in 1952, but not now. And PS, most of these clubs actually want new members, and most of those new members have made their own money.

So says a Member of none of those clubs to someone who is! You have no idea how the process works or where the path even is. This isn’t about climbing.

The wait lists at CCC, Pine Valley, Sankaty, Seminole and Ocean Forest are massive. They are NOT scurrying for new members.

The Links and Augusta are in even greater rarified air.

It looks like this thread went down a rabbit hole but if I can pull it back. We’re thinking about a pool/tennis membership in part because many of our kids’ friends are members. We’re still debating though as although we can afford it, we’d have to sacrifice elsewhere (travel, primarily). We’re also not super earners. HHI around $350K with some family money that will pay for the invitation.

Will we be very out of place? Is it worth it for the social interactions? How friendly are folks? I wouldn’t mind meeting some friends, too, in addition to supporting my kids’ friendships…

So? We are talking about courses around here. And yes the better ones having waiting lists but at the same time they are alwasys looking to fill spots as soon as there is an opening and most of the people have made their own money with a minority that are generational.

I would not think you would be out of place and I think you would enjoy. People are friendly and you could make connections. But do be aware that the vast majority of members are not sacrificing on travel or anything else. They are taking the trips; have second homes, ect.

I'm going through the membership process now at Kenwood, and everyone I've met, from members to the professionals have been incredibly helpful and kind. I'm very impressed with the tennis facilities and pros- tennis is the main reason I'm joining. I'm already a long time member of the oldest private downtown club and use it frequently for dining and social. But frankly have become bored with some of the super right leaning members who have seemed to feel empowered now. I have found Kenwood is diverse, but certainly has plenty of old money, wasps families- maybe as much as Chevy Chase, which seems to be the chosen club today of Fox media and other more limelight type Washington folks- people out to impress. I'm bored with those folks.I love that Kenwood is low-key, very family oriented, and love the historic old school Tudor clubhouse, and the fantastic newish health and tennis facilities. I'm looking forward to my time at Kenwood. Plus it's only 12 minutes from my house in upper NW Washington.

How much is this level of membership?
