What's wrong with cursing?

What is impressive about cursing? Easy cheap garbage words.

They are concise, powerful words.

And did she even talk? I just saw a flash of middle fingers.

You know your kid probably swears, just not in front of you, right?

This thread is bizarre. Don't you remember how much the SAT sucked? Don't you remember being miserable on a Saturday morning as you had to take the damn thing? Feeling like no matter how good a student you were, Monday-Friday, how you did on this one thing was more important?

Thank goodness that isn't the case anymore.

+1
I’m hoping I can convince my daughter of this. She is so incredibly stressed out about taking her SAT/ACT and doesn’t really believe the schools mean it when they say “test-optional.” I’m not sure I do either...

Really? Why? It's been around a long time you know. Seems to be working fine for the colleges that choose it.

test scores were part of it, maybe there were ignored in a case or two, but you weren't getting into an Ivy League school with a 1050 SAT. Now that they're gone, I think you're going to have more kids struggling with the college course load. You can get good grades and do a ton of great volunteer work and still be wholly unprepared for college. The tests gave schools an indication this, but without them, you'll have kids showing up to Ivy League schools needing remedial classes

But you didn't say "test optional". You said "holistic admissions", and you put it in quotes. Please clarify if you really meant "test optional".

previously test scores were available to inform holistic decisions. Scores alone wouldn't get you in, but you'd be naive to think that they wouldn't disqualify a kid. Now, that's gone and there are will be far more unqualified and unprepared kids showing up in the fall

So, to be clear -- and I have to make this assumption because you did not explicitly answer the question - you DO mean "test optional", and not holistic admissions per se.

Fair enough. Time and data will tell if you are correct. Others believe adcoms know what they are doing and that the colleges will pick the path that helps them build the best class. Obviously they all felt COVID would prohibit their ability to select the class they wanted this year. They'll go back to requiring them if they determine they are necessary. Up to them and they will act in their own interests, as they should.

You are responding to different people. I mean holistic admission and not test optional. You are free to disagree.

OK sorry, DP did not indicate he was a DP and answered the question I asked you. So now I will explicitly ask you:

Why? Holistic admissions has been around a long time and seems to be working well for the colleges that use it. Why will it suddenly “backfire in a few years”? Seriously asking what makes you think that.

Did you respond to this, PP? Sorry if I missed it. A lot of action in this thread today. But I still hope to see your answer.

I am so embarrassed for that girl! Imagine the discussions that are probably going on already on class of 2025 social media.

DP. The PP is correct. It’s so funny (and sad) that some of you actually think you sound intelligent when you curse. Quite the opposite.

Exactly what I was thinking! It’s great that she got in, but why did she have to make a tik tok about it?

What is being so well communicated here with the middle finger?

I am more concerned about her decision to post that video than her SAT score.

This tiktok was extremely inadvisable and unpleasant. However, if you watch the one prior to it, it appears this is exactly the kind of talented, hardworking student that the testing optional plans are designed to make admittable.

Except for the test scores, this young lady is quite talented and has a bright future. She got admitted to Parsons, an elite design school (where she will attend apparently). So despite the poor showing in this video, she does not appear unqualified. In fact, she is kind of a poster child for TO.

Also, get your frickin' kids to make their tiktoks private, please.

Don't worry about her. She'll be the next AOC.
She'll be known as Cornell Kari Rodriguez - CKR.

Very jaded here.

It isn't her. I know you know that but you need to keep repeating it. It isn't her.

We have 4 kids either graduated from or are currently attending Ivies. Each of our kids have told us the same thing: the scandal has caused all sorts of craziness with Ivy admissions. In the past 2 years our kids have seen an incredible downward trend in the quality of admitted students.

Our kids say they and their friends have noticed and commented about the poor caliber of incoming students. One of their friends is a TA as he is pursuing his PhD and he wrote the most scathing closed blog post about the quality of this year's Freshman class. I don't know if the Ivies admissions groups will be able to get back on course or not. It will be interesting to see.

Just keep repeating, PP, it isn't my daughter, it is the bad process. Hugs to your daughter that she loves where she ends up choosing and knowing that they wanted her for her.

DP. Wow, the TA sounds like a really great guy. Not snobby or elitist in the slightest. Same with your own kids.

Ah, I get it. Now that I've identified my kids as black you've decided that you can't claim I'm racist anymore. Now my kids are snobby and elitist. Interesting take!

As for their TA friend? He is a great guy and his blog post nailed it.

I'm glad this happened, maybe elite schools can be shamed into going after kids who are actually qualified.

Look at the tiktok prior to this one, which lists all her criteria and shows her portfolio, and then come back here and make the case she is not qualified.
