Test optional sucks and Cornell is not elite

Anonymous
If the kid wants to make a point about the testing industry, that is fine but not sure that was what was accomplished here.

What's wrong with cursing?

What is impressive about cursing? Easy cheap garbage words.

They are concise, powerful words.

And did she even talk? I just saw a flash of middle fingers.

What is being so well communicated here with the middle finger?

I was referring to cursing in general, not the middle finger in this video.

But, in this video, the middle finger could mean a few different things. My interpretation is "F the system that places so much emphasis on test scores".

We are going to have to agree to disagree. I would not want my DC, just starting out on a college journey, to be known for some ambiguous middle finger tictok. Don't see how that helps this kid at all.

A bunch of anonymous strangers discussing it on DCUM? Not great.

I’m so sorry to all the disgruntled DCUM parents for their loss in this year’s college lottery. However, suck it up, get over your disappointment at your child’s rejections and waitlists, celebrate their options in whatever unexpected form they take this year, and let your kids know you are confident they can succeed under any circumstance.

Get over the spilt milk of 2020 & 2021...

No.
I'm one of the posters that has been extremely critical of this specific Cornell admit. I don't even have a current high school senior; I have kids that are already in college and a current high school junior. So I'm not "disgruntled" about any "loss in this year's college lottery." I still think both Cornell AND Parsons should rescind their offers of admission.

Because......she flashed her middle fingers?

Who are you people? Like mega conservative Duggar types? That's how I'm picturing you. Are you even allowed to wear pants?

Well, I am not a "mega conservative Duggar type"--but so what if I was? Mega conservative Duggar types are allowed their opinions too.

I think she will be known for getting in with a "low" SAT score and lots of ECs - *not* the middle fingers. Seems like you're fixated on the wrong thing here.

Don't think. Doubt this would have been posted if she was not declining the offer. It does make you wonder why she applied to this institution for which she seems to feel contempt.

I think it has been well established that the contempt she exhibited was directed toward the SAT.

Yup.

I also note not one person looked at her full qualifications and came back to make a case she was unqualified for admission.

So I guess we can now conclude that she was qualified for admission, despite opinions on the distastefulness of her video.
