Test optional sucks and Cornell is not elite

++ Super school. Maybe it is better if fewer DCUM families want to attend!

Very jaded here.

They are a dime a dozen. Her essay probably sucked.

Get over the spilt milk of 2020 & 2021...

No.
I'm one of the posters that has been extremely critical of this specific Cornell admit. I don't even have a current high school senior; I have kids that are already in college and a current high school junior. So I'm not "disgruntled" about any "loss in this year's college lottery." I still think both Cornell AND Parsons should rescind their offers of admission.

Sour grapes??

Ticktok is filled with these kids. It's upsetting for all the hard working academic students with 1500+ and 36 ACTs to watch these ticktoks and think about all the hard work they've put in. You make it sounds like it's easy to get these scores and there are so many of these kids that who cares. If Cornell is so proud they should post her on their own instagram page. I noticed yesterday some trashy #harvard2025 posts of people saying they got in and today .... don't see them. They must have not liked the image.

When will people realize that admissions to Ivy Leagues is a crapshoot? Many well qualified students are rejected each year and this has been going on for many years. Nothing new!

Yes, there were no guarantees even 20 years ago. Now it's even harder/total lottery.

People were bragging about status symbols way before tictok and will still brag about them after it is gone but elite colleges do not want to see that stuff on social media. This happens over and over and over. Teach your kids to use social media and not let it use them.

What's wrong with cursing?

What is impressive about cursing? Easy cheap garbage words.

They are concise, powerful words.

And did she even talk? I just saw a flash of middle fingers.

What is being so well communicated here with the middle finger?

I was referring to cursing in general, not the middle finger in this video.

But, in this video, the middle finger could mean a few different things. My interpretation is "F the system that places so much emphasis on test scores".

It isn't her. I know you know that but you need to keep repeating it. It isn't her.

We have 4 kids either graduated from or are currently attending Ivies. Each of our kids have told us the same thing: the scandal has caused all sorts of craziness with Ivy admissions. In the past 2 years our kids have seen an incredible downward trend in the quality of admitted students.

Our kids say they and their friends have noticed and commented about the poor caliber of incoming students. One of their friends is a TA as he is pursuing his PhD and he wrote the most scathing closed blog post about the quality of this year's Freshman class. I don't know if the Ivies admissions groups will be able to get back on course or not. It will be interesting to see.

Just keep repeating, PP, it isn't my daughter, it is the bad process. Hugs to your daughter that she loves where she ends up choosing and knowing that they wanted her for her.

DP. Wow, the TA sounds like a really great guy. Not snobby or elitist in the slightest. Same with your own kids.

Ah, I get it. Now that I've identified my kids as black you've decided that you can't claim I'm racist anymore. Now my kids are snobby and elitist. Interesting take!

As for their TA friend? He is a great guy and his blog post nailed it.

You read your kids' friends' "private" blog posts?

Into Cornell with an 1130.

Gosh what a talented and original kid! Exactly someone who should be admitted to an Ivy, scores be damned.

I'll repeat: Look at the tiktok prior to this one, which lists all her criteria and shows her portfolio, and then come back here and make the case she is not qualified.

It doesn't matter if she is qualified or not. She could have posted a 1600 SAT score and I'd still say she is garbage because she flipped off the camera. Cornell is trash if they let her stay.

No one cares what you think.

Insecurities.

The funny part is that 90%+ of them - and their kids - wouldn't even be accepted.

Because......she flashed her middle fingers?

Who are you people? Like mega conservative Duggar types? That's how I'm picturing you. Are you even allowed to wear pants?

We are going to have to agree to disagree. I would not want my DC, just starting out on a college journey, to be known for some ambiguous middle finger tictok. Don't see how that helps this kid at all.
