How long does it take to love Schitt’s Creek?

Exactly what I've been scratching my head over.

I also feel that way but Parks & Rec is a good example. It didn't really get good until Adam Scott and Rob Lowe showed up at the very end of the 2nd season. I watched the first couple episodes just to get a lay of the characters and then just skipped forward to when they showed up. I don't think that would work with SC though, since a lot of it is the evolution of the characters.

We watched the first episode of SC b/c of the awards buzz and because we have seen Levy and O'Hara in a few things and liked them. In my opinion, O'Hara is the best thing going in Home Alone and is the sole reason I'm willing to watch it every Christmas with my kids. Well -- not the only reason -- I do love the scene where the old man reconciles with his family, and I get a little teary, sure, but only because of the movie -- certainly NOT not because my kids are all grown up now and going out into the wide, wide world, which is a tough place, you know, where hearts get broken and . . . Oh, wait, we were talking about Schitt's Creek, right?

Anyway, as I was saying, we watched episode 1 because of the awards buzz and it didn't grab us. But why keep going with it? There's so much else to watch. Highly recommend Catastrophe.

PP here and totally agree about Catastrophe. I'm Sorry is another good one.

I do have to be honest though - I gave up on it around season 3 or 4. I just didn't find the plot that interesting anymore (due to a romantic plotline w one of the main characters).

If you can watch “The Olive Branch” and not love David and Patrick, I don’t know what to tell you.

I loved it from the first second. The over the top campiness and the fact that the characters say what people are thinking inside out loud. They all have hearts of gold. It’s not cynical.

SC seems to veer closer to CBS (Big Bang Theory, HIMYM) where people are way meaner to each other. Just SC does it subtler

I love Brookly 99!

I'm confused by your post though. SC is the least mean show I've ever seen. Literally the core theme of the show is that everyone belongs.

The brother and sister can be very critical of each other “you are wearing that” and they all look down on SC residents openly. I mean maybe they try to help in their own way, and it’s a fish out of water scenario...

Well at first glance they are incredibly shallow. They've lived a life of luxury and are clueless. But as time goes on the show does a good job of adding a lot of depth. I would not call the show mean spirited in any way - I think it's the least mean show on TV.

I laughed out loud all the time when watching it. I even watched it a second time and it’s even funnier.

I’m on my third rewatch and still laugh out loud. I can’t come to DCUM for comedy recommendations (or really any tv recommendations). Their take and humor is just so different.

The shows cited on page 1 do take significantly greater intelligence to appreciate.

Perfect example of what DCUM thinks is clever, cute, and funny.

They don't look down on SC residents merely because they are SC residents. Moira definitely looks down on Roland, but it's because he is annoying and disgusting (such as when he digs into the fondue with his bare hand).

In the first and second episodes, the Roses are so shell-shocked that they look down on everything, but there are no cheap digs at SC residents just because they live in a small town.

David and Alexis are normal siblings who bicker but who love each other.

This video beautifully shows how David and Alexis's relationship evolved.

I would say watch the entire season one. After season one it was pure love for me.

Because it is so good after that -- better than 90% of other shows I've binged during COVID.
