I'm all for reopening everything once people who want to get vaccinated can, but right now there are plenty of people with underlying medical conditions who can't get vaccinated, let alone anyone who wants a vaccine. We really can't wait another month or two?

No. I can't wait another week. This is the one year anniversary of this whole debacle and I'm done.

Exactly. This pandemic is all about you.

My life is about me, yes. Sorry, but I've given you hypochondriacs a year of it. That's all you're getting.

Many of us lost loved ones. Over half a million people are dead. Maybe try to show some respect?

This person already told you they don't care. Can't convince someone they should care about others.

"I don't know how to convince you that you should care about other people." -Anthony Fauci

I like the guy but that is naive. Some Americans care about some other people but to think that everyone cares about everyone is fantasy land. If we cared about people we wouldn’t have child poverty, homelessness, etc. If we cant even get it together to keep what is it a few hundred thousand kids from sleeping in a car or on the street every night how on earth would you expect someone to care about some old person they never met who could possible get covid and die like 5 years too soon.

Millions of children in the developing world die each year from a lack of basic medical supplies or adequate nutrition, which could be covered for months by the cost of one restaurant meal. Please explain to me why it’s okay to ignore those deaths and go about our daily lives, but when it comes to doing the same with reference to COVID it suddenly makes you a horrible evil person. Yes, it may seem heartless for people to say that they’re unwilling to continue to limit certain social activities to reduce COVID spread and save lives but unless you have opted to forgo all discretionary spending and contribute anything beyond your basic needs to charity you are a hypocrite. Someone could just as easily ask you if your Uber eats delivery was more important than a starving child receiving needed food or care. Almost almost human beings are inherently selfish and commit selfish acts every day.

Seriously, waiting til the end of April would make all the difference. So much for getting schools open.

So Hogan has been vaccinated, wants to make a show of opening up — while those of us in groups 2 and 3 will now have exponentially riskier lives? Why do this when a couple of months could have everyone who wants to be vaccinated jabbed?

This. He should be getting Phase 2 done before opening. Lots of people out there with health conditions 18-64. This is callous.

Conservative cred? Have you looked at the Republican party recently? He's not going anywhere in the Republican party after this. And he's been more cautious about reopening than some Democratic governors. He's not getting "conservative cred" on COVID.

If he wants to be a talking head on cable news, he's already gotten that locked up by being critical of Trump.

Basically, Hogan is unusually free to act in the best interest of the state without undue political influence.

And yet he's not doing that. Go figure.

And yet, Elrich & Gayles said nothing will change in MoCo, despite us having some of the lowest case and positivity rate in the state.

Ridiculous.

THIS. This this this.
Plus, how to you continue using Six Flags as a mass vaccination site when Six Flags is allowed to open for regular business?

From WaPo:

Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan on Tuesday said he will lift capacity limits on indoor and outdoor dining, retail businesses, fitness centers and religious establishments — the most dramatic steps taken toward reopening in the region since the winter surge in coronavirus cases.

The executive order from Hogan (R), to take effect at 5 p.m. Friday, also allows large venues such as concert halls and theaters to return to 50 percent capacity and for adult day-care centers to reopen. Quarantine requirements for out-of-state travel are also being lifted.

I don't think any of this is crazy. Yeah, if it were me, I'd probably hold back for another few weeks, but we're splitting hairs at this point, and people who are concerned can wait.

BUT - I DO think it's crazy to do this before opening schools. It just shows crazy misplaced priorities.

I would have a lot more respect if he ordered all schools opened, with all students having the option to come 5 days a week, immediately. Get that un and running then worry about theaters!

Have you been following any of this? Hogan has been clear that he wants school open this month.

I've been clear that I want my kids to clean up their room. And yet they don't.

This is so stupid. Is it possible for MoCo to sue to stop the Governor? At least get an injunction that drags out for a few months to allow vaccination numbers to rise? I’m all for opening up, it’s just the time’s not yet here.

When will the time be here?

MoCo is at 9.3 cases per 100,000. PG County has the highest case rate in the state and it’s only at 16 per 100,000.

MoCo has a positivity rate of 2.8%.

PP here. He "wants" - but is there any guarantee that is happening? Make sure nothing stands in the way of that first. Clear that hurdle. Then order the theaters open the next week.

Hogan can't force schools to open. We very low COVID rates over last summer, yet schools still didn't open in the fall. Even now out numbers are low enough.rvrn for the CDC's ridiculous.guidance,.yet a few counties are still dragging their feet.

If there was something he could do to get schools open, then yes, I'd almost certainly say to it. But there's no to think anything would be good enough for MCPS.
