Agreed- we have family living in both red and blue areas, but they are all puzzled at how little this area seems to value and prioritize education. My brother in the Boston area actually turned down a transfer to DC because of that- their kids have been hybrid and will soon be going back full time. It’s become too political and our local leaders clearly care more about pleasing the teachers unions than educating kids. Staring at screens for hours a day is completely inappropriate for young kids especially. |
| Part of the problem with schools is that the state leaders have prioritized bars and restaurants and strip clubs over schools. |
No - the public schools pandemic failures fall squarely on the counties. Hogan did intervene on behalf of privates in Montgomery when Gayles tried to close them down as well. |

BREAKING NEWS: Prince George's County to ease COVID-19 restrictions on Friday. Among the changes: restaurants and places of worship will be allowed to operate at 50% capacity.

| Ugh. Hope we somehow avoid a big wave from the variants like happened in the UK and elsewhere, but I'm skeptical. Couldn't he have waited just one more month to see if things still looked okay or if cases were going back up again? (Especially with all the new federal money, so we don't have to worry so much about the impact on people and the economy anymore.) |
Well, the rest of us who can't afford to go to private school would like the bars and restaurants to remain low capacity, so idiots won't be eating out inside and causing another surge. That's how you get the vast majority of schools open. |
Whatever, we can agree to disagree but I question the critical thinking skills of someone that can’t recognize that all levels of give (federal, state, and local) have failed our kids in this response. They haven’t always failed them in the same way, but they’re all responsible. |
| ^^ Govt, not give |
| and schools still aren't open. Nothing should be opened further until schools are open |
| Less than a 4 percent positivity rate and only 800 people hospitalized state wide? Not enough to warrant continued closures. |
Question critical thinking skills all you want - but the state (at least in MD) is limited as to what they are able force the county run public schools to do. If you want to find root causes for this issue, please consider that the unholy alliance between the teacher's unions and the counties has been the largest contributor to this problem. The union did not want the teachers to return to the classroom, therefore the county leaders did not force the issue. |

HELP!!!
MY MATH IS FAILING! WHY THE NUMBERS DON'T ADD UO??? Add these two numbers: POSITIVE TOTAL CASES NEGATIVE TOTAL CASES They dont reflect the total number performed tests. So what about 4 million missing test results per this data? Inconclusive? Please try to balance the numbers below. Good luck. You will need it; Unless you know better math then us all: |
It’s the new math - it doesn’t conform to your outdated standards. |
The same person can (and often does) test positive more than once, but they only count as one case. |
