APS- teachers MIA in APS middle school

My kid's MS teachers this year have been amazing. Hope we don't lose any.

If you think this, you really should email the teacher this message and copy their principal on it. APS teachers are demoralized by all the crap that's been posted about them here and on other sites. They are taking the blame for a pandemic that they did not create, and decisions that they did not make. It would mean a lot to them to hear this as they prepare to take on two full time jobs (teaching DL and teaching in the classroom) at the same time.

Teachers should NEVER check out DCUM.. it's 90% slander and trolls. Teachers, please pay ZERO attention to the crap on here!

Since in-person school this year is just distance learning taking place in the classroom two times a week, I fail to see how it makes a difference.

It's a little late for that. They've been reading it all year. Here and elsewhere.

I’ve told my kids teachers I think they’re doing an amazing job. And I told them I don’t care if they teach from the classroom or the moon or anyplace in between. They are good at their jobs and no “long term” sub is going to do better than they are doing.

Then maybe you should pay more attention. The teachers will be in 4 days a week, not two. They will need to meet the needs of two groups of students in two different places, and manage the learning of students at home while making sure in-school students remain distant with masks on. They will need to clean desks in between classes (they have three minutes to do this between MS classes). They will need to sign students in and out for bathroom breaks. The list goes on and on.

*Students* will be there twice a week. Regardless of where teachers and students are physically located, teachers will have to manage student learning distanced from the students. Other teachers and staff supervise students to ensure they remain distanced, clean between classes, and do the bathroom stuff.

Honestly I’m not sure where you get the audacity to say I’m the one who needs to pay more attention.

Anonymous wrote:My kid’s teacher at WMS said “ she isn’t ready yet but may come in 1 month”. That doesn’t sound like she doesn’t have a choice. Another 30 yr old teacher said”‘it’s best for my family “. She has had access to the vaccine. Clearly, they have a choice. My kid can already sense the teachers don’t give a crap. In no other profession you would see this type of unprofessional behavior. By definition, teachers should be dedicated to their students. I wish these types of teachers just would quit and make room for people who care about this noble profession.

Your kid "can already sense the teachers don't give a crap" because that is what you are telling your kid. Shame on you.

Yup. They love to say ad nauseum how they "pity" kids whose families choose DL, but we pity the kids having their minds poisoned by venomous mothers.

The way the UNPAID leave of absence works is that you can give 2 weeks notice to return to your position. Your position is held for the rest of the year. Again, once a sub is found the teacher is home with NO PAY.

F-Off with your entitled attitude. You are a d bag and your kid will become one too.

This entitlement makes me want to puke. So many DBs...

Not only DBs, but dumb to boot. You don’t want a long term sub. Teaching isn’t respected by a lot of these DB Hill lobbyists. Now that, that’s a REAL job. /s

Oh, but they do. Search DCUM. So many posts proclaiming that woefully incompetent, bottom of the barrel, warm body subs who can pass a criminal background check and nothing else are better than experienced teachers, just as long as their little darlings get to be with those woefully incompetent subs in buildings.

I’m a teacher. Some parents have really done their children a disservice by acting like distance learning is the worst thing that will ever happen to them. I hope they’re right, but if not... it’s setting them up poorly. It certainly has been challenging in that it has required new skills, but some parents have literally allowed their kids to throw in the towel. How does playing video games all day instead set them up for success?!

Agree with Ozp. What possible medical reason could someone have who is vaccinated not to return to a hybrid model with PPE? There are none! Its 95 effective in preventing hospitalization and mortality from Covid. The kids were told today at WMS and were so disappointed. One tescher said “ it’s best for my family?” WTF? Are the teachers staying home for childcare? Why can’t the teachers pay for daycare like the rest of us. The message the WMS teachers are sending to the kids is just terrible; l don’t really care about you and your education to get back to work.

Since you seem to lack imagination, here are a few possibilities that don't involve childcare:

--the teacher has a spouse with a health condition who is under 65 and still waiting for a vaccine
--the teacher has elderly relatives that live with them or that they care for that may still be waiting for vaccine
--the teacher has a teen/young adult with a health condition/special needs that is still waiting for a vaccine

In the end, it's none of your business, and teachers have a right to put their families first.

The fact this person has the nerve to get mad at a teacher saying “it’s what’s best for my family” is insane. Teachers are not martyrs. They are allowed to care about their families.

THEY ARE VACCINATED!!!!

Maybe it's not about getting sick but the need to find and pay for childcare/eldercare. And yes, I know many people had to suck it up and find less than ideal childcare but I'm sure some of them would have rather taken leave if it was offered.

It’s definitely about child care for a lot of people. I’m going in four days, and my kids are two. I thought about it, but we’re going to juggle, juggle, juggle, because we can’t really swing it financially right now. Mine are old enough that they can do DL without too much from me, but young enough that they can’t be home alone. It would’ve been nice if working from home was an option, but then I’d feel guilty, too, I think. You can’t win. I would never judge a parent for having to take leave now, in any profession. Teachers’ kids are out of the school system, too.

I meant, “part of”! They are also part of our school system.

I am not sure in what universe people are celebrating fully vaccinated teachers staying home and abandoning children at school when the data shows the kids have fallen so behind. In my job, if l said this to my employer that l demand to work from home despite being vaccinated, then l would be fired.
