The only absolute contraindication to getting the covid vaccine is prior allergic reaction to the covid vaccine or one of its ingredients (i.e.PEG) All the other people's issues are actually more reasons to get the vaccine (immunosuppressive drugs, cancer, etc) Everyone can get it. Pregnant women are having to make choices (as the vaccine is less studied in pregnant women). |
I see people saying this a lot. And I don't care, bc I am avoiding hybrid altogether, but I'm curious: What are some examples of underlying health conditions that would prevent someone from being vaccinated? What are the contraindications? People with autoimmune conditions or who are immunocompromised can get it. Pregnant and breastfeeding women can get it. Unless someone has is allergic to a component of the vaccine, there is really no specific issue. |
I’ll give you an example. My mon has MS and her particular medication is done via infusion every few months. There is a contraindication with the vaccine and so she can’t get it until 4 months after the last infusion and then can’t have the next infusion for at least a month post shot 2. It’s making it very difficult because she gets her infusion every 4 months to keep her in remission right now. Doctors are having her wait for the time being to get the vaccine. |
Not the teachers fault. APS dragged out the application/appeal/leave taking process for months and so now they are in a bind that teachers are exercising their rights to take leave if not offered an accommodation. UNPAID leave. Sorry for your student but it’s the teacher’s right to take leave without pay if they can’t come in to work or just don’t feel comfortable. Once the leave runs out if they still won’t return they will have to resign. Either way it’s their right. Just like you could do from your job. Teaching is a job. These people don’t all have to be martyrs for your children. |
If you are immunosuppressive drugs or are otherwise immunocompromised, the safety is unclear because the vaccines have not been tested on these groups. Even if they can be safely vaccinated, though it’s not clear whether they will have a sufficient immune response to make the vaccine effective given their immunocompromised status. So even if they get vaccinated, they have to keep acting as if they have not. |
ID Physician here. There are very few contraindications for Covid 19 vaccination. Vaccines are safe and effective. Please don’t make stuff up about vaccines on this page. |
The most immunocompromised patients are the ones prioritized for vaccination. They may mount a lesser immune response but still are safe to get the vaccine. If this teacher uses PPE, her risk is almost negligible for Covid. |
You all have no idea why she isn’t coming back. But she has the choice to take leave without pay if she wasn’t authorized an ADA accommodation. It’s that simple. It’s not up to you. Maybe they got the vaccine maybe not. Again not your business and you don’t get a say. |
Huh. None of my WMS kid's teachers will be teaching virtually, they're all returning to the classrooms in-person. |
2 of mine WMS teachers aren’t coming. You are lucky.
It’s such a disgrace. No professionalism. Just selfishness and fear. |
NP here. WMS parent with one teacher who will be at home. My student told me the teacher already had a vaccine (teacher had to take a day off). I’m guessing there’s a very specific reason why this teacher is staying home. Actually I don’t need to guess it’s none of my damn business. |
Stop being such an asshole. No one is impressed. |
Be happy of the privilege to not understand what it means to have a condition or a family member with a severe condition in which you’re so scared for one of your lives you cannot be in school to teach the children you care about. You do not get it. |
I have a condition in which my body cannot fight off respiratory viruses. Even with a vaccine I’m not assured by medical professionals I’d be able to fight off Covid. There you go, one of your “excuses “. I’m not a teacher, I’m a parent. |
I'm immuno compromised. I got the vaccine but IDK if it will work for me. My body may not be able to mount an effective antibody response. There is zero research on this.
If your kids' teachers are staying home they have a good reason, they do not have to tell you, and mind your own f-in business. Or don't. Go ahead and complain and look like the total a-hole that you are. You and the rest of Arlington Parents for Education. |
