APS- teachers MIA in APS middle school

Anonymous
I have had the vaccine, know schools are safe but choose not to be with you. This is the message an APS WMS student is getting from that teacher who stays at home. Let’s ask all the teachers who are staying home if they would accept this for their own children. Shame on you to have such low standards for our public school students

Another 30 yr old teacher said”‘it’s best for my family “. She has had access to the vaccine. Clearly, they have a choice. My kid can already sense the teachers don’t give a crap. In no other profession you would see this type of unprofessional behavior. By definition, teachers should be dedicated to their students. I wish these types of teachers just would quit and make room for people who care about this noble profession.

The way the UNPAID leave of absence works is that you can give 2 weeks notice to return to your position. Your position is held for the rest of the year. Again, once a sub is found the teacher is home with NO PAY.

F-Off with your entitled attitude. You are a d bag and your kid will become one too.

I am the parent of a WMS student. She has one teacher who is remaining virtual. The message she is getting from that teacher is that she must have a good reason for staying home and my child hopes it isn't too serious, that her family members are okay. I guess the reason why the message my child is getting differs from the message your child is getting because we teach compassion and sympathy in our house.

Everyone talks about the plight of working mothers... until it comes to teachers.

I hope my kids’ teachers who are staying virtual can continue that way for the rest of the year. They are good teachers and my kids are better off with them than some long term sub who is going to drop in for a quarter and try to teach both virtually and in person. Not a good alternative.

Totally agree. Is this happening across all the middle schools?

Not only DBs, but dumb to boot. You don’t want a long term sub. Teaching isn’t respected by a lot of these DB Hill lobbyists. Now that, that’s a REAL job. /s

There have been countless articles about how COVID is causing people to drop out of the workforce for family obligations. Many of them are teachers.

Wow I just don’t really care. My child has two teachers who are going to teach from home and they have been doing an excellent job teaching from home this far, I have no idea why it would be significantly better for them to be in the same room one day a week.

I don’t see a correlation between how dedicated a teacher is and where they choose to teach from. My child’s very best teachers (and this is an excellent school so they are especially good teachers) are teaching from home.

Don’t care either. Rather my kid keep their great teacher working from home then some long term sub who doesn’t know anything about the school, the class , the grade level, all the tech that APS is using to teach kids remotely and concurrently. We are close to 4th quarter. I can’t believe they are going to screw this up and try to bring in subs at this point. So counterproductive and disruptive.

My kid's MS teachers this year have been amazing. Hope we don't lose any.

Agree with Ozp. What possible medical reason could someone have who is vaccinated not to return to a hybrid model with PPE? There are none! Its 95 effective in preventing hospitalization and mortality from Covid. The kids were told today at WMS and were so disappointed. One tescher said “ it’s best for my family?” WTF? Are the teachers staying home for childcare? Why can’t the teachers pay for daycare like the rest of us. The message the WMS teachers are sending to the kids is just terrible; l don’t really care about you and your education to get back to work.

Since you seem to lack imagination, here are a few possibilities that don't involve childcare:

--the teacher has a spouse with a health condition who is under 65 and still waiting for a vaccine
--the teacher has elderly relatives that live with them or that they care for that may still be waiting for vaccine
--the teacher has a teen/young adult with a health condition/special needs that is still waiting for a vaccine

In the end, it's none of your business, and teachers have a right to put their families first.

The fact this person has the nerve to get mad at a teacher saying “it’s what’s best for my family” is insane. Teachers are not martyrs. They are allowed to care about their families.

THEY ARE VACCINATED!!!!
