Georgia Senate voting to end absentee balloting

Much of Georgia does not have great public transportation, and some areas have none at all. How are poor people without transportation going to get to the polls?

Same way they get to the market or to church or to any of the other places they go during their life.
I am sure Stacey Abrams' group has transportation available. If they want to vote, they'll get to the polls.
I think you underestimate the resourcefulness of poor people.

What do you think is gained by setting up a system that requires a certain (Black) group of the population to be resourceful in order to vote?

Why do they need Stacy Abrams to arrange transportation? Answer: they don't. That's insulting.

DP. If it was actually insulting people wouldn't use the buses, but they do. Stop telling other people what they should find insulting.

I don’t care what color you are. If you want to vote, show up with ID.

Georgia requires ID already. Why do they want people showing up on Saturday but not on Sunday?

I didn’t draft any legislation- personally I don’t see any issue with Sunday voting.

Why do you suppose the majority Republican Georgia state legislature, which does draft the legislation, has an issue with Sunday voting?

Seriously. This bill is designed to suppress the black vote. They know they can’t win if turnout is actually high.

Though the conservatives have been doing this since back when they were Democrats, the nakedness of their anti-democratic moves is just obscene. They’re out in the open now and I don’t know how anyone can defend it.

I don’t know. It could be a general disdain for Sunday activity, or it could be aimed as you suggest at church voter turnout.

I don’t think it’s too much to ask people to come out and vote with ID. I am very disturbed by ballot harvesting.

I welcome individuals of all colors, faiths and backgrounds to vote, provided they do so in person.

Agree with the bolded.

I wonder if the canceling of Sunday voting had anything to do with their ability to get people willing to work the polling places.

No it did not. Georgia staffed Sunday voting this year 2x during a pandemic including for a special election. It’s racism pure and simple being kicked up
A notch because Republicans sense they are losing and are getting desperate.

This is a BFD. When the GOP has lost the Chamber of Commerce...

Cause for a mild smile, but the Chamber of Commerce has slowly shifted its language on the insurrection (correctly negative at first, now they’re neutral to positive) and so I have no reason to think they’ll keep up opposition to this.

Its happening.

Coca-Cola is the 6th largest company headquartered in Georgia and one of the largest political donors.
