No, I don’t find it amusing in the least. I do find disgusting the inability of others to recognize and admit the seriousness of the events.

+1 - I fear that, for too many people, the ridiculousness of the horned fur men and private jet Malibu barbies is obscuring the seriousness of what actually just happened.

+2

There is video of a line of guys dressed in tactical gear, including radios, heading purposefully up the steps as the mob broke in. A bunch of them were violent clowns, but some were much more purposeful. The mob was cover for people with specific goals and the ability to carry them out. They had tasers, zip ties, pipe bombs, and almost certainly firearms. If a few things had broken the other way, we'd have seen a lot more deaths.

Can you post a link to this? I’d like to share it with all the idiots who are posting that latest Randy Rainbow video. Violent rioting and a seditionist attack on our democracy is not funny.

That's the line of guys. I think the videos in this thread are some of the most horrific: https://twitter.com/bellingcat/status/1348288680474128384?s=20

But they breached the Capitol, had bombs, and zip ties to take hostages.

I can't believe anybody thinks this is anything other than some bad decision making by a handful of hooligans, incited by some professional instigators. Doesn't anybody else just find the whole thing amusing?

Was an inside job, 2 CP arrested, 10-15 under investigation.

Also 1 Secret Service Agent fired, can’t find the link to article right now.

Americans have a very, very long history of denial.

No I don't.

I'm now more concerned about what might happen in state capitals than what might happen in DC. DC is being secured. What about Annapolis? Richmond? Atlanta? St. Paul? Denver? Sacramento?

Two weeks ago I would have said that the hype was overblown. After last week I'm not so sure.

We live in Bethesda. I’ve heard a lot of the deranged white supremacists are staying out here and metroing in. Any word on safety measures being taken outside downtown DC?

...Any word on safety measures being taken for Metro employees?

In Arlington we have nonspecific promises of adequate security measures from county government. I’m sure they don’t want to play their hand and detail exactly what those measures are. I’m prepared for curfews, which I hope they will announce in advance this time.

Can someone tell me if there is violence expected tomorrow (1/13)? I’m trying to decide if I should run errands today and stay home tomorrow.

I am very concerned about Annapolis. That’s an easily attackable building. I also have a brother who is stationed at a state capitol building out west. They are all hands on deck this week. Everyone got expedited for the vaccine as well.

No. I do not find it amusing. If you find it amusing you are a sociopath.

I agree that (thankfully) last week's mob was disorganized and incompetent. But, I don't find it amusing in the slightest. Their intent was vile, they were spurred on by leaders at the very top of our government, and many members of the federal police were either negligent or complicit. 5 people died, including a police officer. Not even a little bit funny.

I also don’t think any Jewish people thought armed mobs with the slogan 6 million was not enough is amusing at all. And I’m sure no black people think gallows on federal land is funny either.

Maybe not, but black and Jewish people did make up a tiny minority of that mob. Crazy.

Typical. Calling out the sprinkle of Black and Jewish people in an OCEAN of whiteness.

As if those few people being in the crowd should make the millions of others in the country think it was amusing.

You stupid fool. THEY STORMED THE US CAPITOL BUILDING. THEY WERE A THREAT TO THE REPUBLIC. Stop with your idiotic knee-jerk "what about the blacks" equivalencies. If you give a damn about this country, you need to condemn the domestic terrorists who literally brutalized their way onto the Senate Floor with zip ties and body armor. And if you can't condemn that, openly and loudly, you're no patriot but a disgusting husk filled with lies instead of basic principles.

Do you honestly believe that we were at risk of the government falling? Because of crazy people who weren’t organized enough to mount any sort of ‘revolution’? I honestly condemn every person who engages in violence. So I abhorred the “peaceful protests” in the summer (with police precincts burning and loss of life) and I certainly abhor the actions taken on 1/6 = truly vile and disgusting!
I’m just consistent, which apparently is a rarity these days.
I absolutely condemn and am disgusted by any and all violence!

The only reason the mob didn't get to Pence is due to the heroics of Officer Eugene Goodman.

And the cop who was beaten with the American flag, who was overpowered by a mob and while he was lying on the ground, they debated whether he should be "killed with his own gun," said one of the reasons he didn't fire for his own safety when he had the chance is because they knew that MANY members of the mob were armed and they had been taking guns off them all day.

So spare us with the minimizing

So not the fall of the government but certainly something bad and unprecedented!

A lot of things that happened during this debacle appear to be spontaneous. If they really wanted to commit a terrorist attack and kill people, they would have went in with guns blazing. Instead, they took selfies and acted like jackasses.

Wonder what the defund police and military folks think now.
