I am PP and I am a run of the mill white person with a run of the mill white child.
My child is personable, friendly, energetic and loves to learn. Are these kids in enrichment really more gifted? I want to see what they can do.

My DC was recommended for enrichment by his teacher, but failed to get in. This is a kid who could read textbooks at 3 years old and could solve two digit math problems at 4. He could look at a list or map and memorize the entire thing easily at age 3. He could draw an exact map of the US without looking at anything, again at age 3. I never questioned why he failed to get into enrichment, maybe I should become that person? I want to know what special qualities these kids in enrichment possess.

our kid was recommended for an enrichment program by a teacher who also suggested that we follow up with the principal if we wanted her in- if you don't advocate for your kid and other parents do, your kid loses out. Welcome to modern public education.

I am just hoping being in enrichment is not a huge deal, and maybe my child just wouldn’t fit in with the enrichment kids? I doubt that though. I am a little upset because he truly isn’t being challenged and his teacher knows that. I will look for extracurriculars on my own for my child, music, maybe computing or something. I know, I know everyone believes their child is a genius.

I am realizing this now. Sadly, I didn’t advocate for my child and here we are. DC isn’t learning anything and he seems to be stagnating. I feel that enrichment would maybe engage him more. I didn’t want to be that obnoxious mom who thinks her kids are superior though, so I just forgot about it. I can look for extra stimulation for DC on my own.

Are blanket statements about all White people based on the Varsity Blues scandal accepted? NO

Are blanket statements about Muslims based on anything accepted? NO

Are blanket statements about Black people based on anything accepted? NO

But blanket statements, racism and xenophobia as well as legal institutional racism against Asians are readily accepted, encouraged and green-lighted in our society.

Welcome to the wonderful country you immigrated to!

Blanket statements about blacks are made all the time and accepted in this country. Muslims face tremendous bigotry in this country. All these posts about how Asians have it worse than all other minority groups in this country are misguided and make you sound whiny.

Blanket statements about Blacks and Muslims are NOT socially acceptable. Do they occur? Yes. Are people that say these things canceled? Yes.

There is tremendous support from communities, local leaders, officials in higher ranks of government, by educational leaders, those in higher academia, in hiring practices across a broad spectrum of workplaces- for blacks and Muslims.

Discrimination against these groups gets rightfully checked. It’s acknowledged and people on every level of society are working to eliminate it. Again, rightfully. Allies are real.

Discrimination against Asians/Indians/East or South wherever- is condoned, dismissed, accepted and expected.

Xenophobic, biased, bigoted statements are made all the time against Asians and no one bats an eye. It’s that ingrained into the fabric of American psyche.

State sanctioned killings by police = ok but sure let's pretend blanket statements about blacks are unacceptable, they have support, and discrimination is checked. Hahahahaha!!!

I posted the Karen comment, sounded facetious but I was being serious. It only work if you're white. Some immigrant kids' parents may not even speak English well enough to advocate. When minorities do advocate, they are often considered difficult, whiny, what-have-you. When white people do it, it's advocating. Obviously there are exceptions here and there because there are a smattering of genuinely good people in decision-making positions. Infuriating, but you're right, it is modern public education.

As long as there's no cheating or abuse of the children (I knew a girl when I was in school whose parents would beat her and she studied all night and couldn't stay awake during school), prepping is great.

Pro-TJ reform here - what your friend told you is garbage. Those of us who are in favor of TJ reform don't have any issue with parents doing right by their kids. We have an issue with a system that incentivizes spending thousands of dollars and hours on exam prep. There are those who would conflate the two - those people are nuts.

Whites spend even more money on prepping because they pay for private tutors for test preps, classes etc. private tutors cost much more than in class tuitions so we should outlaw those first.

White person here. I've never known a white family in my entire life who paid for tutoring for their kids. This would be very uncommon in the white culture. I've known white families who sent their kids to Catholic schools for a better education.

White parents also pay lot of money to private psychologists to bribe their way into aap. We should outlaw those as well.

Corrupt fcps will never do that unless blacks complain.

You do realize blacks did not complain about TJ. Most blacks have no desire to go, even those who qualify. This is a white people issue and this lottery will increase white kids.

No one likes advocating parents. Administrators don’t like accusations of racism either- I’d think AA parents would have a pretty easy time pushing for programs

I am PP and I am white. I am not a Karen, nor do I ever want to be. However, I feel very sorry for my child who seems to be stagnating because he didn’t meet some arbitrary criteria to be accepted into enrichment. His pediatrician called him brilliant, all of his teachers have remarked on his intelligence, but no enrichment for him? I never talk about DC’s intelligence to anyone except family. I fee sorry for him and it’s now my job to pay for extra stimulating activities because I refuse to beg the school to place him into enrichment.

No. Your kid’s spot was stolen by an unqualified white student whose parents likely cheated, bribed or threatened legal action to get that kid in.

Many Asian students have the same problem because their parents cannot adequately advocate for them and yet white parents accuse all Asian students of doing too well. LoL.

That thought crossed my mind, believe me. It’s infuriating.

Is that really grounds to threaten legal action though, really!? Isn’t there proof that the child isn’t qualified?
