Ranking girls middle school club teams

Unless you're willing to go all out to try to get your DD recruited, why would you leave school early, spend hours of your week driving up and back from Baltimore, do homework and eat in the car and miss out on fun social activities and possible friendships closer to home just to play lacrosse at M&D? It's a great club, but is that worth the trade off her quality of life?

And, where did she get recruited? Was it worth it in the end?

I am sure M&D and the other Balt teams aren’t perfect. Unless your daughter is in the top 3-5 on the team, definitely not worth it. Are you sure they don’t play favorites?

How old was she when she started doing this? And until when?

Also curious to know - what made you do it? Meaning were the clubs poorly run then as well? Was your daughter not being challenged? Were practices just that much better up there? Are the coaches that much better? Thanks for sharing!

My daughter is currently playing for a Baltimore team and started in middle school. I told her to choose the girls she wanted to play with and the coaches she thought would make her better. We haven't ever had to pull her out of school early and she can't do homework in the car so it's late nights two days a week in the Spring, but I think she would say it has been worth the sacrifice. She has found her people and the training is great. It isn't for everyone so I would guess those asking how aren't the people who would understand.

I think its great that you knew your kid and did what was best. Can you give some detail on what about those programs make them so much better? Is it that practices are more productive? For instance, I notice that our practices have way too much down time and not much of a "practice plan". Is coaching superior? What made you leave the clubs here? And if I may ask what club were you with here prior to going to Baltimore? What Baltimore team are you with and how did you make that choice based on all of the options?

The style of play was more her style. She was tired of being told she ran too fast and was overly aggressive. The girls are really supportive and understand that it's a team sport so they aren't trying to undercut each other. The girls aren't pigeon holed into a position. They are expected to be effective players, not just effective at a specific position. Practices are super productive. There isn't down time and the girls aren't coddled. She was playing for a top club here and went to a top club there.

Thank you for sharing. Was it an hour each way to practice? Or worse?

My daughter does M&D, black not red, and she has a whole set of friends that she otherwise wouldn’t have. Coaching and program are light years ahead of local option, practices allow for incredible growth, she plays in 6-7 games at tournaments, not 0-4 or 1-3, and has been exposed to a different set of recruiting people that she wouldn’t get here. There aren’t many of us, but the time spent is worth it to her

This is great information to have. Thank you for sharing. Curious.....why M&D as opposed to say Hero's? Also how bad is the traffic...for real? What do you do while she is at practice? Just asking to see how people make it work. Thanks

in the Fall it looks like they only practice on Sundays? https://files.aievolution.com/mdl1401/docs/Fall_Practice_schedule_revised_9-17.pdf

Thank you for this and I guess I am stating the obvious but for the anyone else who is new to this and shocked as to how bad the options are here in MoCo....if you look at the verbal commitments of M&D you will see girls from high schools in our area....so I guess its not that far fetched....and for Hero's I don't see it on the website but the Sports Recruiting links are amazing....wow

I wouldn’t write off pride or MC midnight just yet...

I saw that too. That doesn't seem too bad at all. Do the high school teams practice 2 weekdays during spring?
