Well, if that works for them, great. I prefer a celery who has time in the day for congregants. |
I prefer peanut butter with celery. ![]() |
Then I hope you donate to the church! Not enough people donate to mine so it’s either close the church or pastor gets a full time job AND pastors. He’s choosing the latter. |
We try to donate 10% to some charitable causes or the church. I’m not giving 10% to my church because they’d use it for something stupid like an organ or fancy carpets. I try to give enough to pay my fair share of building maintenance and support for the priest, which ends up being a couple thousand a year. The rest goes to relief organizations, women’s shelters, environmental organizations, etc. Here on earth, God’s work must truly be our own. |
Just want to emphasize that "the church" that is paying the pastor is nearly always the congregation, made up of individuals. Very few denominations have central organizations that pay into local churches. If my fellow congregants don't give, our minister doesn't get paid. I was 10 years old the last time I had a minister who was a parent -- it's very difficult to afford a family and most ministers I know are single. |
I give 1% of my gross to my church. I give the other 9% of my gross income to the many other organizations I also believe in. |
So the church speaks for God now? |
It is a bribe. |
Poor people don't need charity, they need justice. Church can't provide that. |
So it is like a tax, or a HOA fee. |
The last posters must be Republican haters. No open-minded tolerant Democrat would ever write things like that. |
Liar Most have kids Bible says to give your grain offering to a levite priest You are free to pick and choose what charity you want, whether it is missions, local church or a wildlife conservation Nothing in the Bible contradicts that. Ministers are not poor, they live in large homes, drive nice cars, eat good food and all their kids have college funds |
Do we go to the same church? The one with the new carpet and furniture that looks like the lobby of a boutique hotel? |

We give 5% of our gross income to our church. We also do a lot of in-kind service such as driving elderly folks to church each week, and staying late to clean up after coffee hour. |
