If I spoke that way about, say, Muslims you "diversity-;loving" folks would be all over it. And i never see that on this forum. I'll be posting such comments shortly, and then let's see where you are at.

All religions have ridiculous beliefs. I’m sure the level headed of us, regardless of political affiliation, will completely agree with you.

HHI $500k, we give 10%. I didn't fulfill my pledge one year because of a Preacher's behavior, I gave that money to another religious non profit.

What religious organization let you down?

We are not talking about the social programs the govt runs here.

Our church does amazing things with the money tithed.

I truly hate giving my money to the US govt for social programs. It's such a waste.

I love giving my money to my church for all the good social programs they do. I wish i could transfer my tax money to my church.

This is all after you're dead, right?[/quot

Hahah! Of course! We all want to stay together as a family in the afterlife.

And you believe God has commanded that you give 10% of (manmade) currency in order for you to stay together...?

The government helps a lot more people than your church. Or do you just enjoy the idea of controlling your money so that only those you/your church deems worthy of help recieving it?

Not as much as they would like.

Taxes - 100k
Mortgage - 40k
Childcare and preschool - 50k
Retirement savings - 100k
College savings - 25k

Leaves us with 81k. We then give around 7-8k which is 10 percent

Not my fault the US government can’t do more with the 100k we pay in taxes.

That’s a lot but aren’t you supposed to give 10% of gross? 45k in your case?

Supposed to?

Why? It costs money to run a congregation. If we want the community to be there, we need to support it.

I don't think mine are ridiculous and they do not require a belief in a higher power. Treat people fairly and take care of earth are the main ones.

Anonymous wrote:LDS poster here again. Let me clarify. We do not pay to get into the celestial kingdom. We pay tithing as part of good deeds to help others. Something tells me you know nothing about the emergency and other services the LDS church provides to members and non-members. We were the first trucks of food, clean-up etc. on site after Hurricane Sandy, for example.

Something also tells me that you do not respect Christians, or people who are/believe differently from you.

Not the poster to whom you are responding, but you brought this on yourself. In your first post, you wrote: "Our church (LDS) mandates 10% gross income in order to be considered temple-worthy. We cannot enter the celestial kingdom (highest level of heaven) without doing so." Please harmonize these two statements.

I have great respect for Christians - I am one myself. In particular, I respect Martin Luther, who waged a campaign against selling indulgences. And your first post seems a lot like that.

Why do you believe this?

Because that’s what their cult, I mean church, tells them.

Agree, but tithing is BS.
