Goal differential counts, they should continue scoring. I’m surprised it took 12 minutes, they dominated play from the beginning.

People comment on men’s haircuts all the time, there are some stupid looking haircuts in men’s World Cup.

To the people saying rest your starters, you only get 3 subs and they used them, do you even follow soccer?

Teams get 3 subs in the group stage and 4 in the knockout round. No way to rest all of the starters. It’s not the USWNTs fault that they dominated so much. Keep in mind these women have been training for this event for years, hearing comments that the rest of world has caught up and also fighting for equal pay. They have everything to prove. I agree the celebrations after 7 goals was a bit much. At the same time they were probably surprised at their level of domination given the team record score in prior matches was 7-0.

I don't have a problem with the unearthly pounding that the US Women put on Thailand. I understand the necessity of it, and though it was sad for Thailand, it is FIFA that bears the onus for this for the differential rule and for expanding the field to include teams like Thailand to begin with.
I do, however, have a problem with people like Jill Ellis and Abby Wambach who fall back on the old " Would you be criticizing a men's team if they won like this?" The answer is YES.
There is inequity between men and women in sports yes, but this tired line doesn' ALWAYS work. Save it so it matters when it does. 13-0 will always draw criticism.

I’m one of the pps and I have no idea who Rapinoe is. My girls are just starting to play club soccer in the fall so I thought I should catch a game to check out our national women’s team. I found their celebrations late in the game classless. No idea if Rapinoe was one of them or not, but I’d guess so because the whole team was jubilant for each score, even in extra time.

Not what I’d want my girls to be doing or looking up to.

Such an American reaction. I have kids who play in international tournaments, even at u12 in Europe they keep the gas on and cheer wildly. I saw scores 20-0 and the parents crowds are still cheering. It’s the World Cup!!! You keep scoring and foolish to suggest anything different

Unless you need the goals for some reason, there's no way a European team goes on to humiliate the opponent with 13 goals and the celebrations that followed.

Don't be surprised when the crowd turns against them in future matches.

Goal differential determines standings, which determines future matches. So the goals are needed.

Or, maybe not. Maybe it's a huge deal to score your very first World Cup goal, and your teammates are rightfully thrilled for you.

This. She's a 21 yo, scoring her first international goal. She's also freakin' amazing, and the future of the USWNT. You'll be seeing her for a long time.

Agree. Some of the celebration was excessive. It’s ok to be happy and keep scoring for goal differential advantages, but no need to be so pompous when you are up by that much. Let the scoreboard do the talking, that’s the classy way to handle it. The other teams will see that and be intimidated. They’ll now watch the pomp and in their hearts work harder to humiliate our team. Jill Ellis could learn a thing or two from coaches who understand the importance of keeping the ship on an even keel.
