Could you ask Jeff to change the title of the thread?
Thanks. |

I’ve got no problem with the score.
The celebrating after each in the final minutes of the game left a bad taste in my mouth. That wasn’t very classy. It’s the first game I’ve watched in years. Not sure that’s the impression they want to give new viewers. And I sure don’t want my kids emulating it. |
+1. Disgusting in a first game |
BS you have kids playing in intl tournament. GTFOH. |
| All this really proves: Women's soccer isn't very far along in most of the world. |
Let’s try and be better than U12 parents. |
BS. Unless you need the goals for some reason, there's no way a European team goes on to humiliate the opponent with 13 goals and the celebrations that followed. Don't be surprised when the crowd turns against them in future matches. |
Not the poster above, but my son played in EL Mundialito a huge international tournament in Spain. Scores were big, no mercy. |

I felt bad for the Thai team and especially that poor Thai GK who closed out the first half with what seemed like constant shots for the last few minutes. But it's the World Cup. And goal differential also matters. And the US team is under an incredible amount of pressure based on who they are AND as defending champs so I would expect there to be some emotional release. And if with the slog that is the World Cup and I was the coach, I'd be concerned about what it would do mentally if I told players to take their foot off the gas. And,I mean, if I scored a goal in a world cup game, I'm pretty sure I'd celebrate even if it was 20-0.
Was I surprised they ran up the score, maybe a little. Is it classless to do so in a world cup game. No, it is not. |
+100 World Cup. Period. We are talking about age 20+ professional and national caliber women. You run it up. Now this early in the Cup, I’d be thinking of resting my starters and having them avoid injury which is the only reason I would pull stars out when the lead was a sure thing. |
| Hopefully they didn’t just blow their proverbial wad here and it’s all downhill now. Pride comes before the fall |
I think that is where the smart money is. |
| I wonder why the US is in such a weak group to begin with. Did anyone in their group ever make it out of the group stage? Seems a little contrived |

Other countries don’t encourage and support young girls to play sports the way people in the US do. NPR did a story last week about how few girls in France play soccer- they are encouraged to dance but not to do sports that are seen as aggressive.
If you are in a country that has fewer girls playing sports, it is more difficult to have enough women playing at a high enough level to be competitive in the World Cup. |
Doesn’t the number one ranked team play the weakest team at the beginning of a tournament? I thought that’s how it is always done. It is how they do it in men’s sports. |
