What are shows that everyone swears by that you can't get into and why?

I have never seen an episode of Game of Thrones.

Schitt’s Creek gets funnier the longer you watch it. It is a little corny but that’s the point.

I just recently binged all 5 seasons. I think you over time start to appreciate all the characters quirks and how they affect others. It is corny, but I just find the fish out of water story amusing.

Yes, so good. They could have easily stayed at a stereotype and cheap laughs level, but they actually went pretty deep and the characters start to care about each other. It’s so well done.

Exactly. And as much as I love the show, I love that they are ending it next season. They wrote the show to completion and they’re done. They’re not going to drag it out for rating or whatever.

They also deserve so much credit for creating a world in which homophobia doesn’t exist. Watching the show is a glimpse into a world that I desperately want to be in.

It was funny with Charlie Sheen.

Doesn’t mean it was good to you. Other ppl, critics, and longevity say otherwise.

Look, I think there's a difference between a show that is your style and up your alley and whether or not it is objectively good.

People are apt to assume that others are looking at things the way they are, like everybody is looking out the same window at the world

I loathed Schindler's List and basically every Spielberg film. For TV, there are a lot of shows I am just not interested in watching and I actively dislike

But I can see that my dislike does not mean a director/movie/ show is bad. It just means I don't like it

I think if more people would stop assuming we all see things the same, or that we should, and stop dismissing other people's likes based on their own preferences, we would be in a much better place for dialogue

GOT, too gross.

This is us is trite and I could not get into the americans. I find house of cards good and sadly, quite plausible

As a government employee I always tell everyone who thinks House of Cards is real to go watch Veep, which is a much more realistic portrayal

I love Schitt's Creek so much. I liked it in the beginning - I don't think I LOVED it until season 2. It's a much warmer show now than I was in the beginning. If you want to try again, PP, maybe start with season 2.

OP again. Those are two of my favorite shows. I've seen a lot of talk about Friends on here, but why The Good Wife? Now, the The Good Fight, on the other hand ...

Well it’s been on for 12 seasons, so maybe it’s you.

Just because it's been on a long time doesn't mean it's good. It obviously is popular, and no matter how many people like it, I stand by my opinion that it's just about the worst show that I've ever had the displeasure to watch.

So it’s you.

DP. Isn't that the point of this thread? Shows that everyone else seems to like but you couldn't get into? I think comedies in particular tend to attract different people depending on your style of humor. My DH was a fan of How I Met your Mother and The Big Bang Theory whereas I did not. Whereas he couldn't stand The Office, Parks and Rec, and Veep, which I loved. I think the only comedy we both actually liked was Modern Family, which unfortunately has played out too long and became unwatchable the last couple of seasons.

Other things I couldn't get into:
Reality TV in general
Gray's Anatomy

I watched Grey's in the beginning, but broke up with it YEARS ago. I can't believe it's still on.

This is Us
Breaking Bad
Mad Men
House of Cards
The Americans (although I might try it again)

Yes.

However, when a person says “I truly cannot see what ppl see in that show” it’s no longer about not getting into a show. It’s about their superiority bc they don’t like the show so no one else should. How hard is it to look outside of your own personal viewpoint and realize others are different. It then becomes, maybe it’s just the type of person you are that you cannot even acknowledge others could find something enjoyable that you don’t.

Try it again. I watched the first couple of episodes back when it premiered and couldn't get into it. Then we pulled it up on Prime a few months ago and I was hooked. I actually think it's one of those shows that got better the further they got into the series, it took the writers a bit of time to find their footing.

+1 to the PP who said they can't believe Grey's Anatomy is still on! Back in grad school my roommates and I would have Desperate Housewives/Grey's Anatomy nights. It was amusing at first but I haven't watched it in years now.
