I didn't get this survey - when was it sent out?

Doesn’t seem much of a consensus with what people want...

I got it yesterday. You can email fcpssurvey@fcps.edu and maybe they can send you one.

Why ask if I think winter break should be 2 weeks or less than 2 weeks, and then have me vote on the 2 options that both include 2 weeks for winter break (my vote was winter break should be less than 2 weeks). Usually you'd ask for input PRIOR to the development of the proposal, so it's clear the survey results mean nothing.

Yes, totally agreed that the survey felt like a bait and switch.

I still think we should go back to having fewer snow days in the calendar the way it was decades ago, but I know they aren't going to listen to my annual rant about that either.

My biggest complaint are the three-hr. early releases. Ridiculous. Also, did anyone notice that dismissal on the last "day" of school this year is at 10:10am?? (At least it is at our high school). What an incredible waste of time - for everyone.

Yep, the high schools have a 2 hour day. My kid doesn't go, it's not worth getting out of bed for (and apparently a lot of the teachers jokingly encourage the kids not to show up so they can use the time to pack their classrooms!). Middle and elementary schools have a three hour early dismissal.

Thank goodness the three hour early dismissals go away for the 2019-2020 school year. I hope they never bring them back.

why does inauguration day need to be a day off from school? With the Monday holiday, a TWD and inauguration it will be a 2 day week. What is the point?

I don’t like to pull my kids out of school to travel but I might do it for 2 days that week...

LOTS parents do this already. It’s awesome.

it's pretty sketch that the two options they give are:

#1

School starts 8/24 (Mon)
School Ends 6/11 (Fri)

#2

School Starts 8/31 (Mon)
School Ends 6/21 (Mon)

I mean, if you start 7 days later, why would you end 10 days later? Any why would you make the last day of school be on a Monday? It's almost like they put up something bogus like that to get people to vote for the earlier start because that's what they're going to do anyway.

Hmmm thanks for this info...did not realize this...how about the fact that the entire last week at Oakton HS is early release. Bet there are tons of kids that just skip the whole week!

Definitely a perk of teaching high school vs elementary.

PP here, and yes - you're right! Same thing at Langley. What's the point and how can they even justify calling these "school days"?

At my high school (Marshall), these are finals days. So kids need to show up. Also, as long as lunch is offered, it counts as a school day. I’ve been there 19 years and it’s always been this way. And yes, many kids don’t come on the last day.

Does anyone know what the outcome was from the April 25 meeting? I’m mostly curious about when spring break will be, and also about Inauguration day.
