| 3 please! They don’t need that forever long winter break. |
Same. |
| My preferred calendar is considered to be a modified year round calendar. I think 2-3 weeks between quarters and a 6-8 week summer is best for all. |
Thank you. I’m going to write to my school board people and request #2. |
|
Me again tho. Idk why they don’t offer an 8/31 start and 3 days off winter break, though. And why if we go back one week later on 8/31 can we not get out on Friday June 18???
Especially on getting out on 6/18 - am I losing my mind?? Wtf. |
| This is my 3rd post in a row. But I feel like the writing is on the wall and they're not seriously considering 8/31, if they are offering THREE 8/24 options. |
Our family would MUCH prefer to have vacation time in June and school in August. There are many parts of the world where we need to take our annual vacations where August is the worst month to visit (toi hot or too wet). Secondly, because of APs after the May exams, nothing get done in high schools and having the extra month of front-loaded instructional time is much less stressful and much better pedagogically. I hope the school board picks the mid-Aug or early Aug date for the start of the school year and keeps the extra week of winter break. |

Can anyone answer me this. If we go back 8/31 that’s 11 weeks of summer. Of course I feel like we are “due” that additional week from when they had us start going back one week before Labor Day and we only had 9 weeks that summer.
What happened when we always started after Labor Day? Did the summer vary between 10-11 weeks? |
This year school started 8/28 and the last day is June 13. I’m not sure why if it started 8/31 why the last day would then be a week later in June. I’ll have to look at a whole calendar. |
| I just want them to go back to having a basically similar schedule from year to year. Winter break being a different length and location all the time, all these differences between teacher work days v. early dismissals and all that makes the school year feel very chaotic. It'd be nice to have the calendar itself be routine. |
Totally agree. |
Is there a link with this information? I like option 1 or 3 only because 6/21 is way too late to get out. I'm on the fence about the winter break days. I think my preference is Option 1 with the longer winter break. |
The original version of that calendar had students getting out the 18th but it looks like they added the Wednesday before Thanksgiving as a full day holiday which meant adding on that random Monday as the final day. |
Thanks. IMO they should give all same options with both 8/24 and 8/31 start dates (winter break, Tgiving, etc.). Better yet, include SOL start dates each way too to really illustrate that it’s a red herring. |

If you want to get out earlier, you need to shorten Christmas break and start weeks before Labor Day. If you want to get out later, you need to keep Christmas break to two weeks and start only a week or so before Labor Day. If you want a happy medium, you start a week before Labor Day and shorten Christmas break. This seems to be the only option NOT being considered which is baffling to me because this is what the county did for yeeeeeeaaaaars before f-ing around with all this snow day waiver nonsense. |
