And, unless I missed something they actually changed option 2, to end on 6/18 when they previously had it at 6/21 when they sent the initial survey.

I am a fan of starting as late as possible including post Labor Day. So I still prefer option 2. I guess #3 is my second choice but I think it will be hard for some to find 2 day camps for M / T if school start on W.

I like it. Not starting two full weeks before Labor Day, three days at Thanksgiving, two week winter break and out on June 11.

Yeah it’s the best of the three. None of them are great though. But I like 3 best.

I would have liked 3 but hate the mid week teacher work days.

Agreed. Because of the weird early releases (After a long weekend? 1/20 How strange) and Veteran's Day off (no thanks), I'll go with 2. Otherwise I would like 3. Why is this so hard for them?

Love option 3. Only thing I would change are all the random early release days. Change 1-2 of the early release days to full teacher work days and get rid of the rest of the early release days.

Links to the new options?

I agree.

It's not perfect, but it's a better option than the others.

20 snow days built in? If they fixed that, August 31 and get out June 11th is not a problem. That is way more than needed.

20 days? Ugh build in 10 and let us start late and begin early. Then add on days if we really need to.

Meant end early. Start late.

That’s not how it works though. They schedule 180 student days. That’s the minimum. The way they count the hours allows them to miss the days, but there are no extra actual calendar days. They can’t shorten the student calendar any more.

well, they could start counting "eat your lunch" as "instructional time" -- or perhaps they can start counting "when you get dressed in the morning in preparation for school" as "instructional time" 'cause that's about the same as what they magically counted as "instructional time" to get those XX snow days (or whatever). They magically decided that walking from the bus to the classroom in the morning and from the classroom to the bus in the afternoon are now "instructional time" -- so voila!--- we have "built in" snow days and didn't make the calendar any longer! Imagine that!!!

The "Built in" snow days are are farce. They simply decided to not make up 10 or so days. Your kids are getting less instruction than they were before the magical built in snow days were added about 5 yrs ago. It's how our school board and superintendent lie to the public. There is nothing "instructional" happening when someone walks to their classroom or out of the school at the end of the day... but those 20 min (10 in the morning that they count and 10 in the afternoon) add up to 100 min each week, and that adds up to XX magical built in snow days each year!

Thanks, school board!

Yup. This. But no one seems to care and if you complain about it you don't love your kid and just want the schools to provide child care. I mean, why should you care that they actually count instructional time as instructional time?

1/20 is Inauguration Day. Why the hell do we need an early release day on this day?? After a teacher workday?

because, God willing, we will be celebrating the inauguration of a NEW president. And if it is, we should get the whole damn day.
