From the outside looking in and based on feedback from parents, FCV has a better development program for the long run. DA program will also win in the long run vs. ECNL.

Anyways, throw this into your "debate". How many 08s play on Loudoun Red 07? Pretty sure FCV 07s have at least (3) 08's playing up a year AND starting!

What makes you think DA wins out long term over ECNL? This is a serious question. I’m not trolling or picking a fight. The recent departures from the DA and additions tonit make me think ECNL wins long term. You feel otherwise?

It's a mix with who is leaving and who is joining DA.

First and most importantly, DA is pulling ahead and the boys side by a good margin. Was at a field last week with Sasho (UMD Mens Coach) just hanging out watching U17 Bethesda DA Boys vs Armour. Second, they are likely to allow players to play HS if they choose to do so, although it will still be discouraged. DA has the backing of US soccer. Lastly, the obvious, the DA to US Womens' Soccer connection/ID Camps, ETC...

So not sure what the "wins out" criteria is, but I think they will both survive, with ECNL being more dilluted than before. Some ECNL teams will be better than some DA teams and vice-versa. There will be also be a few EDP centric clubs better than both. Example, I'd put Montgomery Rush Coyotes and Pipeline programs against any DA or ECNL clubs in the north east. There will also be other new cross-club programs further dilluting all of the top talent, especially in the DC metro area where many have deep pockets to pay for the next shiny new opportunity. This has happened before as CCL, NPL, NCSL, ASL and other leagues (each of which were good leagues at some point in history) are now basically competitive rec leagues once EDP NL league and conferences formed and ECNL and DA age / programs took over.

If you have an 07 about to compete at the highest levels in the transitionary middle school years, be comfortable with change and never assume the team and coach you have this year will be the same next. If it does not change and you like it then great, but don't count on it.

That is a bad sign for FCV to have 3 2008s playing up. The program lacks enough good 07 players to field a full competitive squad. It would be one thing if these players put FCV into a category where they were better than the top VA teams and competing in the top Jeff Cup bracket but that is not the case. Results from the weekend show they are still middle of the road. Lack of depth has always been the FCV issue as a small club. They overcame that for many years by being one of 2 options in ECNL for the top players to move to at U13. With so many club options now people have more choices. Given that players seem to be sticking with their clubs this puts FCV in a bad spot.

There’s no mix on the girls side. Top clubs out and not top clubs in. US Soccer tried to keep ecnl players out of ynt camps. It didn’t last. PP is about a year behind.

It really strikes me that DA girls has not been very forceful with their rollout. It’s almost like a soft rollout. We will see if that continues. Also I think the women’s national team is going to run into problems at the World Cup. This could put a lot of pressure and focus on US Soccer to get serious about DA on the girls side.

The older the age group the harder it is to change. I would have liked to see US soccer just start DA at u13(u12) and add a new year class each year. So they start with u13(u12) the first year, 2nd year have u13(u12), u14, 3rd year u13(u12), u14, u15, etc. Gives everyone time to adjust and does not disturbances the old age groups now.

US Soccer hasn’t been forceful with their rollout? What should they do that they haven’t? They’re battling an established league that allows high school soccer. What else can they do?

Have you seen the FCV 08s play? Maybe they're quality and it makes 'sense' for them to be playing 07. SAC and MDU have 08s playing up...

Battling? US Soccer tried to steal and takeover ECNL. Its was never their product to begin with. How is that a soft rollout? They used a bulldozer! However, the ECNL never gave up and is winning back ground...and will continue to do so. It's nothing but a money grab. You think the DA is better than ECNL because of a patch? US Soccer does nothing for the DA. However, the paying parents at DA do alot for US Soccer. It's all BS.

What is it that ECNL is providing?

Reality is...if the players' development was top priority, the youth soccer landscape would look much different. ECNL and DA are both going about things correctly and incorrectly. It's a shame because the player's suffer as a result and it will begin to show more and more with the USWNT. Other countries have simple paths set forth.

A strong national league for girls way before US Soccer was sued for inequality and forced to participate. That's all. Nothing big

Enchilada

Are you talking about girls who quit team mid season or girls whose parents didn’t realize that they were supposed to go to Jeff cup when they made vacation plans? Or both?

Mclean is an absolute disaster. Worst club in the area psychologically on the girls side. Follow the 06s who have to do wasteland ODP to try to grab attention. Only figures the 07s only give partial committment.

How did McLean get so bad? I keep reading different threads that continually say what a bad place Mclean soccer is to be. Why all of the hate? What happened there that made them so bad? Is it unique to the girls side or is it on the boys side too?

Because WS Va parent recruiters are using this thread as propaganda.

If it isn't plainly obvious, WSVA playup parents used to be at McLean and FCV, which is why those two programs get bashed incessantly.
Anonymous
WS VA is attempting to recruit 07s and 08s players. McLean is their target. Several parents are leading the effort on behalf of the club. Painting McLean as a dysfunctional club will help their efforts.

Loudoun ECNL is trying to keep their teams together despite the pull of a local DA of FCVs caliber being next door. Painting FCV as being a dysfunctional club helps their efforts.

A lot of this is propaganda by those working on behalf of the clubs.
