This thread is hilarious. Love it as I am no part of it in Maryland....I know parents both from Loudoun Red 07s and FCV 07s. From the outside looking in and based on feedback from parents, FCV has a better development program for the long run. DA program will also win in the long run vs. ECNL. Anyways, throw this into your "debate". How many 08s play on Loudoun Red 07? Pretty sure FCV 07s have at least (3) 08's playing up a year AND starting!
What makes you think DA wins out long term over ECNL? This is a serious question. I’m not trolling or picking a fight. The recent departures from the DA and additions tonit make me think ECNL wins long term. You feel otherwise?
It's a mix with who is leaving and who is joining DA. First and most importantly, DA is pulling ahead and the boys side by a good margin. Was at a field last week with Sasho (UMD Mens Coach) just hanging out watching U17 Bethesda DA Boys vs Armour. Second, they are likely to allow players to play HS if they choose to do so, although it will still be discouraged. DA has the backing of US soccer. Lastly, the obvious, the DA to US Womens' Soccer connection/ID Camps, ETC...
So not sure what the "wins out" criteria is, but I think they will both survive, with ECNL being more dilluted than before. Some ECNL teams will be better than some DA teams and vice-versa. There will be also be a few EDP centric clubs better than both. Example, I'd put Montgomery Rush Coyotes and Pipeline programs against any DA or ECNL clubs in the north east. There will also be other new cross-club programs further dilluting all of the top talent, especially in the DC metro area where many have deep pockets to pay for the next shiny new opportunity. This has happened before as CCL, NPL, NCSL, ASL and other leagues (each of which were good leagues at some point in history) are now basically competitive rec leagues once EDP NL league and conferences formed and ECNL and DA age / programs took over. If you have an 07 about to compete at the highest levels in the transitionary middle school years, be comfortable with change and never assume the team and coach you have this year will be the same next. If it does not change and you like it then great, but don't count on it.
+1
