Thanks! We wanted a walkable neighborhood with a strong community feel and Kentlands fits the bill. We love it here! |
Look on a map... Kentlands is very isolated from the rest of Gaithersburg, and it is not anywhere near Germantown. It is a gaithersburg zip, but a completely different area. Also, avg HHI for Darnestown, which is adjacent to Potomac, is $173k. It isn't a poor area not sure what PP is talking about. Yes, Germantown and Gaithersburg are poor, but Kentlands and Darnestown are far from it. There are nice areas outside of Bethesda. |
But you know what we do have in Gaithersburg? Close proximity to a large number of beautiful places to run, hike, bike, and kayak. For people like my DH and I, who love the outdoors, the local, state, and county parks nearby are part of the reason we live here -- and, gasp, we live east of 270! And contrary to what one would read on these forums, I can walk safely in my neighborhood during the day and at night! If we want to go to a cultural attraction, we can easily drive or metro to DC, but on a daily basis we can take advantage of the state park that is within walking distance of our home. I seriously doubt that any of you spouting off about how wonderful DC is go to visit those DC attractions on a daily or even weekly basis. |
bunnies can live for like ten years in your house |
I assume most of these 'why would anyone not want to live in DC' posters like you are transplants to the area so you are all pressed to be in D.C. I work in DC, live in MD, and would love a job in MD. |
Maybe you should drive over here. First of all, Germantown is huge. Secondly, you are wrong about Kentlands being nowhere near Germantown; I live in Germantown and it takes me at most, 5 min to reach the Kentlands (where my dentist is, a gym I used to frequent, Wholefoods, etc). Lastly, you shouldn't characterize Germantown and Gaithersburg as 'poor'. That is intellectually lazy when you can simply look up the zipcodes associated with these areas where you will see that there are areas of lower hhi and areas of higher hhi. The neighborhood I live in is diverse, quiet, full of hard working people. There are plenty of activities in Germantown and Gaithersburg for my children, an abundance of shopping and entertainment options and a 30-45 drive to the city if we want to visit museums, eat at a restaurant or visit family/friends. |
Germantown also has amazing parks (Adventure Park), the huge soccer Plex, bubbles tennis courts, biking walking trails, and a huge county indoor pool themed as a pirate ship with slides everywhere , 30 swimming lanes and Olympic diving platforms. Oh - and a Wegmanns. I’ve always thought of Germantown as being pretty great.
I forgot the Splash Park
|
I would hate to live near this - Germantown sucks!
|
This is the Lifetime Fitness near the townhouse. How horrible!
|
Agreed, FFS, nobody wants to be Bethesda and Potomac people. |
I love that pool, got me through the toddler years! |
Yep! We love the SoccerPlex and the Black Rock Center for the Arts. |
| I think it is a sad mentality that people can't believe other people would want to pay a lot to live somewhere where OP and other pps don't consider desirable to them. Very closed mind set. A mind set that closed that luckily developers don't have. They saw an opportunity and clearly are still building there. Try opening your mind a bit more op and others, people paying 1.5mil for a town-home probably don't care about the public school that much. And many wealthy immigrants and born Americans there like that their kids and elderly parents(if they are with them) can walk to the gym and grocery store and the movie theater. To each its own, why can't you accept that? |
I agree, DC is for people who want to visit and look at thing. Upper Moco is for people that want to do things and form lasting relationships. DC (Bethesda/Potomac/CC) = living your best life with your material things MoCO (not Bethesda or Potomac or CC) = living your best life creating life long friend. DC nice to visit, don't want to live ther. |
