Most of the Gaithersburg general area is ganglandia. Only a small section(Kentlands and Lakelands) and the Darnestown area are wealthy and nice places to live, and the Crown area is a nice place to shop. Kentlands and Darnestown families are very similar to Bethesda or Potomac families(some are members of Congressional or Bethesda, kids drive new Jeeps and Benzs, etc), but even though that area is similar, anywhere else in Gaithersburg is so poor and horrible. That's why Gaithersburg has such a bad reputation, because the rest of the area brings it down even though there is a very nice part in the west/south. I'll guarantee you that anyone saying Gaithersburg is nice is talking about the western part of 20878 not anywhere near 355 or east of Great Seneca Highway(the border between nice and dumpy). People don't know about Darnestown/Kentlands/North Potomac because all anyone can think about is Gaithersburg as a whole and its reputation, but in reality this area is VERY different from the rest of the city.
No way, wishful thinking!
It’s closer than you think. Sorry you think we’re poor, but we’re not. Average HHI is $155K in Kentlands (https://properties.kimcorealty.com/properties/1762/). Bethesda’s and Potomac’s avg HHI is $185K. But yet you live in Gaithersburg/Germantown, congrats?

Thanks! We wanted a walkable neighborhood with a strong community feel and Kentlands fits the bill. We love it here!
Look on a map... Kentlands is very isolated from the rest of Gaithersburg, and it is not anywhere near Germantown. It is a gaithersburg zip, but a completely different area. Also, avg HHI for Darnestown, which is adjacent to Potomac, is $173k. It isn't a poor area not sure what PP is talking about. Yes, Germantown and Gaithersburg are poor, but Kentlands and Darnestown are far from it. There are nice areas outside of Bethesda.
Maybe you should drive over here. First of all, Germantown is huge. Secondly, you are wrong about Kentlands being nowhere near Germantown; I live in Germantown and it takes me at most, 5 min to reach the Kentlands (where my dentist is, a gym I used to frequent, Wholefoods, etc). Lastly, you shouldn't characterize Germantown and Gaithersburg as 'poor'. That is intellectually lazy when you can simply look up the zipcodes associated with these areas where you will see that there are areas of lower hhi and areas of higher hhi. The neighborhood I live in is diverse, quiet, full of hard working people. There are plenty of activities in Germantown and Gaithersburg for my children, an abundance of shopping and entertainment options and a 30-45 drive to the city if we want to visit museums, eat at a restaurant or visit family/friends.
Germantown also has amazing parks (Adventure Park), the huge soccer Plex, bubbles tennis courts, biking walking trails, and a huge county indoor pool themed as a pirate ship with slides everywhere , 30 swimming lanes and Olympic diving platforms. Oh - and a Wegmanns. I’ve always thought of Germantown as being pretty great.
