I agree with others that dealing with the real problems should be independent from celebrating Christmas.

Like others said, I’d be having concersations to try to understand why she is exhibiting these new behaviors, so we could address them in the most effective way. As part of the conversations, particularly the ones about life goals and steps to get there, you could point out that you are able to provide things like nice christmases for your family because of your academic and career successes.

We canceled Christmas and my kids have been so well behaved ever since. Go for it.
