Maryland "Progressives" are so radically intolerant and hostile I couldn't wait to move. (The commute is better now, too). Trump is "the bully" but a kid in a MAGA hat gets beat up. Teachers turn a blind eye on students who skip school to go protest. Their brillo-haired Congressman, Jamie Raskin, made it his first priority in office to try to arrange a coup to overthrow our democratically elected President. The Governor Larry Hogan would be a Democrat in any other state, but to people in the DC suburbs in Maryland, he's Satan, and they just nominated a far-left Bernie Sanders puppet plus racial agitator to go against him. They used to have a liberal Republican congresswoman Connie Morrella, who was forced out by one leftist replace by extreme leftist Raskin who is really dangerous in my opinion. And now you have Montgomery County electing a far, far, far-left socialist former SDS member, Elrich, as its next County Executive??? Are you kidding me? If Nuclear-Free, Sanctuary, Vegan-Organic Takoma Park elects to become a protectorate of Cuba or Venezuela, will the rest of Montgomery and Prince George's County follow suit? Half of their government is from Takoma Park anyways, so essentially Venezuela would rule Montgomery County, and it sounds like people would be ok with that.

So my question is, Why is this? When and why did Maryland-DC suburbs, especially Montgomery County, embrace a one-party leftist dictatorship? 30-40 years ago, Maryland was a moderate Southern state with hospitality and politeness. Now its a leftist run-amok. And there's some irony here, because they are missing an opportunity to have some common ground dialogue with people like me - I'm for gun safety, for example. I don't believe that we should have guns in schools and I think there should be background checks - but ironically, if I walked through downtown Silver Spring with Trump paraphernalia, I'd be shot.

Arlington VA says GFY. VA is Blue and we don't want you here either. I hear North Dakota is nice.

I'm OP. I voted for Ted Cruz in the primary and then Trump. I will most certainly vote for Trump in 2020.

I think actually people in Northern Virginia are almost as hostile to people who support Trump and Republicans, although at least I can find some pro-Trump allies around me but we are the minority. It's as if they live on another planet, which they own, and people who don't agree with them are unwelcome.

But Maryland is still worse. Not only do they not like Trump but they actively hunt you down if you do. You should see the political ads - NEgative ads compare candidates with Trump, and that is what is supposed to finish them off. And Maryland Leftists are the most far, extreme left and in your face about it. NoVa Democrats seem to be comparitively more moderate.

If I had to see one more Black Lives Matter shirt on a white person at a farmers market with stupid hair or Jamie Raskin sticker on a Prius I might have to throw up. Or any person who supports Marc Elrich but also benefits from Capitalism.

I was just in Florida visiting family. There are a number of political TV campaigns in the South praising Trump and deriding liberals, accusing other candidates of not being conservative enough. Are you saying this kind of negativity in a conservative state when directed at liberals is ok, but any negativity directed at Trump in a liberal state is not?

Ben Jealous (and hopefully he will not be elected but if he is, not my problem) will bring economic collapse and a Social Justice Warrior Dictatorship and Marc Elrich will bring Socialism and turn Montgomery County into a protectorate of Venezuela.

First, let me frame my response by stating that I agree with OP in many of their stated opinions. I am a Hogan voter who thinks Jealous is too far left, the crime in Baltimore is a very serious problem, and MoCo is not as business friendly as it could be.

OP, you lived in MD and many people there were more liberal than you. We all live among other Americans who do not fall on the exact same spot of the political spectrum as we do. Just because you have encountered a few extremists who say things like Hogan is racists does not mean the entire left is 'looney'.

Your statement that you would be 'shot' if walking in Silver Spring with Trump paraphanalia is not based on reality and these fantasies are fueling your persecution complex. I personally have not given up on America and believe the majority will not re-elect a racist bigoted xenophobe and his corrupt cronies who are plundering the treasury for their own ill-gotten gain (funny how the people who hollered about how the presidency had made the Obamas rich don't seem to be bothered at all about these thieves and rogues. I wonder why that is?) and ruining the earth for generations to come.
