Why The Loony Left In Maryland?

Anonymous
Higher taxes don't lead to better rankings. More parental involvement and holding both students and their families accountable does. Its quite possible rankings slid due to the amount of children who are here and don't speak enough English and then are forced to take PARCC state assessments in English only.

What BS? Give concrete examples.

When my friends - white men that are socially left-of-center - say stuff like this, it's usually because they are upset about "cultural signalling" issues - i.e., the rise of minorities and women in the Democratic party. I have a lot of white, male friends who are socially liberal and are very bitter about white men losing power in the Democratic party. They feel "lost" but can't honestly articulate why they are feeling that way.
Like generally focusing on sending signals to everyone about how virtuous they are with their great ambitions to save everyone from some lack of privilege while letting jobs and money drain out of the county..

Like voting to spend Montgomery taxpayer funds for a defense fund for illegal/undocumented immigrants who are accused of crimes...

Like making stupid laws for every little thing, like having to ask permission from the county to even airbnb your house out while you're on vacation..

I don't think that there is anything wrong with the rise of women and minorities in the democratic party. I do think that on some social issues the left is outpacing me and I can't keep up with them, though.

That darn due process. Darn Constitution, too.

Of course, the day someone accuses you of.... stuff..... that should invalidate YOUR due process, I'm sure you'd be aghast.

From the article the other poster shared:

"Immigration violations are civil, not criminal, matters, so those facing deportation are not entitled to public defenders."

So we are spending public funds on the civil matters of non-citizens.

While we're funding people's civil matters, I wouldn't mind the county paying for my lawyer whenever I have to sue someone in small claims court.

Is the defense fund limited to immigration issues or is it for other "crimes" as well?

It is limited to immigration matters, as far as I can tell.

The amount allocated by the MoCo council was $375K. The MoCo budget is $5.6B.

So this is equivalent to 0.0067% of Montgomery County's annual budget. Are you folks really that worried about "we can't afford this" when your child's friend's parents' are being arrested? This is a legit happening in public schools across the nation.

So many cold hearted, bloodlusting retirees in MoCo....

You spout these excuses but have no evidence to back up your assertions.

FACT: MD school rankings have slid further every year Hogan has been in office.

I think all defense for false arrests should be funded, maybe we would stop arresting innocent people and holding them in jail which costs the tax payer a boat load.

That is still too much money. Is MD helping with education funding formulas for Obama's unaccompanied minors? 5000 plus. Public health clinics in MOCO have quite the different profile/demographics than others like in Baltimore. Check who has what insurance and ethnicities. Uninsured and hispanic mean what? Guess-I can.

Amazing how Takoma Parkers care more about the illegals than Maryland's city - Baltimore. Such BS.

I agree it's not a huge expense, but the non-profit they offered it to didn't even want it. It's poor management to spend money that no organization has stepped forward to collect. That's just nonsense, no matter what the money is for. It's fiscal mismanagement.

Anonymous wrote:OP, you are not alone in your sentiments about MD. As a Black conservative I am worried about the lower middle class whites and poor whites/blacks being unable to find jobs due the under cutting of wages via illegal immigrants who are employed and often under inhumane conditions. I am worried about the public educational system across the country and the idea that many illegal immigrants come across the border without papers and proper vaccination (though I heard they get vaccinated in detention centers). I am worried that the wealthy benefit from the idea of flooded cheap labor so that they can begin to depress wages for all of us not in the top 10% of workers. I am worried that another civil war will break out because of the media and both sides becoming increasing intolerant of each other, meanwhile China and Russia could potentially invade while we are fighting each other. I am worried that we are becoming so divided that we are falling apart. Many other Black people share this sentiment, we often discuss this among ourselves.

It is funny that you have this conversation with "[m]any other Black people, we often discuss this among ourselves." I guess that you had a meeting with Blacks and I was left out. I doubt that you could find 20 AAs in Montgomery or PG County that feel this way. I almost want to question whether you are Black or not.
Anonymous
Actually PP, this is discussed in sororities, fraternities, Jack & Jill groups, etc. These are the circles in which I am in and this is what I discuss with friends and family. I can’t speak for all people in such organization—— I am speaking from my circle. Please read my post again and don’t ever come for my Blackness, have several seats.

I was going to respond to say that I live in the area of Maryland you're talking about and though I wouldn't be hostile toward you I also wouldn't want to be friends with you if I knew you'd vote for Trump and still somewhat defended him by saying "I don't agree with everything he does..." and didn't outright oppose him at this point in the game. That would indicate really divergent values to me and I would not welcome a warm relationship with you.

Then you said that people in MD beat up kids in MAGA hats. I don't see this and would not condone it.

THEN you called Jamie Raskin brillo-haired, which is really beyond the pale and vaguely racist in a weird way.

So...ok. Let's agree to not like each other I guess. Because you have made it clear that I and others like me would not like you at all.
Anonymous
Jamie Raskin is truely weird looking. It looks like he had pubic hair transplanted on the top of his head. I think he may have actually done that.
Anonymous
PP, that Jamie Raskin hair comment is hilarious.
Anonymous
Aww. I think Jamie Raskin is handsome, in a disheveled Professor kind of way
Anonymous
Also, I don’t like criticizing Jamie Raskin or Marc Elrich for their appearances. Even if OP or anyone didn’t mean to be anti-semitic. It’s one thing to not like their politics - I happen to like both of them, but if you don’t, that’s your right - but we don’t like when women are derided for their appearance, so let’s not do the same to men.
