Their brillo-haired Congressman, Jamie Raskin, made it his first priority in office to try to arrange a coup to overthrow our democratically elected President.
Nope, no racism to see here folks, just move along. OP as a Jew I find you truly offensive and understand how you voted for Trump. |
Exactly. Usually they mean "intolerant of my racial resentments and veiled bigotry." We can agree to disagree on policy differences. But when Republicans actively try to undermine the 1st, 6th, 10th, and 14th Amendments whenever they come into power, I call BS on their woe-is-me victimhood. |
| I'm a democrat but some of the BS in Montgomery county is too much for me |
Yes! Thanks for highlighting that nugget of racism. I caught it, but was shocked into silence. Op: no need to wear a MAGA hat in SS, people can tell you are racist by your icy stare and fearful body language. |
What BS? Give concrete examples. When my friends - white men that are socially left-of-center - say stuff like this, it's usually because they are upset about "cultural signalling" issues - i.e., the rise of minorities and women in the Democratic party. I have a lot of white, male friends who are socially liberal and are very bitter about white men losing power in the Democratic party. They feel "lost" but can't honestly articulate why they are feeling that way. |
A kid in a MAGA hat gets beat up = all liberals are insane and intolerant. Gotcha. And you'd get shot wearing Trump paraphernalia, sure. HELP! THE LIBS ARE "RUNNING AMOK". Please tell me how exactly Raskin is "dangerous". Did he, for example, conspire with Russians to win his election? |
I'm the PP who called out the "racial agitator" language (seriously, I think the last person to use that phrasing was Bull Connor) and wanted to say thanks for your comment. That particular dog-whistle would have slipped right by me. Now we wait for OP to come back and claim some sort of marginalized status. Usually folks like that come back with some sort of "For the record, I'm not white." Usually what they mean is "I'm totally white, present as totally white, and identify as totally white, but for the purposes of this discussion I'm going to claim a possible indigenous ancestor." |
Rise of women and minorities? No one cares about that. My party has had dramatic shifts on illegal immigration. That change summarized: https://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2017/07/the-democrats-immigration-mistake/528678/ No one should get to vote in any local election as an undocumented immigrant/illegal alien. No county money should be used for legal defense. No Puerto Rican should have come to the mainland after the hurricane and discovered Hispanic illegals have been using their identity to pilfer /steal government benefits. Imagine that. Complete with some Dems defending identify theft by illegals. Puerto Rican friend said deport them and their families. |

Elrich (who is way, way left) won by 77 votes in the primary. The issue was so many democrats threw their hat in the ring, that the moderate votes was split among Blair, Berliner, Frick, and Krasnow (ok, and Leventhal). Elrich got the unions on board and that locked up one constituency over the others. If even one of the other candidates had chosen not to run, Elrich probably would not have made it. I hold the local Dem party to blame for that (I dont' have a party affiliation -- like 1/3rd of registered MoCo voters -- so couldn't vote for any of them).
Then you have the MCGOP who puts up crazy Ficker. If they had chosen a moderate candidate, kind of like a MoCo version of Hogan, he'd stand a fighting chance of winning in November over Elrich. Someone asked for an example of idiocy in MoCo governemnt. Here's one: http://www.bethesdamagazine.com/Bethesda-Beat/2018/County-Council-Approves-Funds-for-Immigrant-Legal-Services/ In short, the Council proposed to allocate $$ to a non-profit (CAIR) that provides legal services to illegal immigrants. They had a few strings attached, like the money can't be used to provide services for violent criminals. CAIR said no thanks (they never asked for the $$ in the first place, actually). What does the Council do? They pass the bill anyway, so they allocate money in the hope they will eventually find a group that wants it! Shows how much they are about taxpayer money. |
| Of all the at-large council candidates on the D side who will be on the ballot, all hail from Takoma Park / Silver Spring. ALL of them. Hardly representative of the county overall. |
Silver Spring is huge, so that doesn't tell you much other than public servants don't earn enough to live in Bethesda or Chevy Chase. |
I realize this is from Ficker's site, but the map is accurate: https://twitter.com/ficker_robin/status/1023563535962517504 The public servants for at-lage positionas aren't coming from huge swaths of the county, like Germantown, Rockville, Clarksburg, etc. |
So...how many of the candidates who lost the primary were from those places, though? |

I doesn't list their place of residence, but I'm assuming at laest 4 out of the 30 are _not_ from SS/Takoma Park. Also your argument is the same people use when they defend lack of racial or ethnic or gender diversity is business. How many of group X actually applied for the job? |

Have you always been this dramatic or is this a late-in-life thing? You never actually gave any examples of anyone being "dangerous" other than the "kid in MAGA".
I personally haven't seen any intolerance towards Trump supporters here in MoCo (Rockville/Potomac area) other than some "Resist" yard signs. As far as illegal immigration, I think what most people object to is the racist "deport everyone, they're all rapists and criminals" mentality. I don't know a single liberal who says "sure, everyone who feels like entering the US should be allowed to, willy nilly". The thinking is more that everyone deserves consideration, particularly people fleeing dangerous situations. Sorry, I don't know how to explain to people how to be human and to care about the suffering of others. The "I got mine, everyone else can go burn, if they're not well off, then they probably deserve to suffer" mentality is what separates the conservatives from the liberals I know. And as far as your Christianity goes, keep it out of our schools and government and really just keep it inside your own house and church, thanks. No one is going to persecute you if we don't constantly have to hear about it. |
