I'm not the most political person in the world but when forced to answer, I lean conservative. I'm for lower taxes, controlled immigration, I don't want to see taxpayer money go to abortions and I support our troops and I'm a Christian. But to some people on the north or should I say FAR LEFT side of the Potomac, I'm the Devil. I have friends who are liberals and Democrats and we get along just fine, as I said, I'm just not that obsessed with politics. I voted for Trump in 2016 but he was not my first choice and I don't love everything about him. I think career politicians who spend too much time in DC are out of touch with reality - ON BOTH SIDES - and that a change in leadership was a good thing.
My husband and I have lived all around the DC suburbs for twelve years. We now own property in outer Alexandria, but as recently as one year ago we lived in Silver Spring and GOD HELP US. Maryland "Progressives" are so radically intolerant and hostile I couldn't wait to move. (The commute is better now, too). Trump is "the bully" but a kid in a MAGA hat gets beat up. Teachers turn a blind eye on students who skip school to go protest. Their brillo-haired Congressman, Jamie Raskin, made it his first priority in office to try to arrange a coup to overthrow our democratically elected President. The Governor Larry Hogan would be a Democrat in any other state, but to people in the DC suburbs in Maryland, he's Satan, and they just nominated a far-left Bernie Sanders puppet plus racial agitator to go against him. They used to have a liberal Republican congresswoman Connie Morrella, who was forced out by one leftist replace by extreme leftist Raskin who is really dangerous in my opinion. And now you have Montgomery County electing a far, far, far-left socialist former SDS member, Elrich, as its next County Executive??? Are you kidding me? If Nuclear-Free, Sanctuary, Vegan-Organic Takoma Park elects to become a protectorate of Cuba or Venezuela, will the rest of Montgomery and Prince George's County follow suit? Half of their government is from Takoma Park anyways, so essentially Venezuela would rule Montgomery County, and it sounds like people would be ok with that. So my question is, Why is this? When and why did Maryland-DC suburbs, especially Montgomery County, embrace a one-party leftist dictatorship? 30-40 years ago, Maryland was a moderate Southern state with hospitality and politeness. Now its a leftist run-amok. And there's some irony here, because they are missing an opportunity to have some common ground dialogue with people like me - I'm for gun safety, for example. I don't believe that we should have guns in schools and I think there should be background checks - but ironically, if I walked through downtown Silver Spring with Trump paraphernalia, I'd be shot. |
You clearly are not the crazy one.
Enjoy Virginia, I am glad you found your people. |
|
Montgomery County and outside-the-beltway Virginia are great examples of the sorting that has become more common in our country. It's a problem but I'm glad I moved to MD from VA although the homeschooling is not as easy here.
One of the downsides of "The Big Sort" (it's a book, of course) is that we start talking about people like you do (it goes both ways, I get it). |
| I think your post indicates some looniness, but not from the left. |
|
Congratulations on voting for Trump. As an AA, I am impressed by the number of people racist enough to vote for him or for whom his racism was not that big of a deal. It really lets you know that progress is never permanent.
Who would shoot in Silver Spring for wearing a Trump hat? I think that you are not being very honest. |
|
I hope Virginia works out for you. In the meantime, the rest of us in "loony Maryland" will worry about all of the downriver effects of the current administration, from the 400+ parents deported without their kids, to the State Department retroactively invalidating the passports of transgender Americans.
Oh, but I'm glad no one gives you the stink eye for your MAGA hat anymore. I mean, that's the important thing, right? |
| OP—I understand your post completely. I used to live in MD and I used to be a Democrat until the party changed. For people who claim that the right is intolerant, too many DEmocrats fail to see how intolerant that have become. |
| OP - You are not alone. Counting the days until my kids finish school and I reach retirement age so that I can move out of Montgomery County. |
Do you mean that you were a southern democrat until the 60's? |
Original poster here, I said I'm not usually that political and I don't wear Trump hats around and I don't like everything he does but I do support the President and I think most of what he does is good for America. You tell me, what would happen if I did wear a MAGA hat in downtown Silver Spring? Or to the Takoma Park Farmers Market? I'm not about to find out. No one is answering my question, which is why has Maryland gone so far off the deepend Left? |
Nothing. Nothing would happen. You think no one has ever done this? Your hyperbole diminishes your arguments into nonsense. Nothing you say can be taken seriously because this is so ridiculous. |
Yes, you're soooooooooooooo oppressed. The victim-mentality keeps the Republican party apologists chuggin' along with their fake outrage for their radical positions. All the money, all the political capital, all the inherited privileges, all the benefit-of-the-doubt from our corrupt legal system - and yet Republicans still whine, whine, whine. |
You tip your hand here, OP. The only people who talk about "racial agitators" are racists. |
Plus this nice turn of phrase...
...yes OP, we get it you don't like Jewish Democrats. |
Intolerant of what? |
