I don't understand how she is allowed to keep a gun in her car during the school day if it is on school property. If the car is parked off school property then that's different. She has a concealed carry permit. Perfectly legal in VA. VA is also an open carry state, BTW. Nothing newsworthy here.

All true. The law states the gun has to be not loaded and locked in a safe within the car, which it sounds was the case.

I'll have to go back and read, but aren't school districts allowed to set policies that are stricter regarding staff and guns on property?

"Legal" and "not newsworthy" are not synonyms.

16:36 here.
The superintendent sent out a memo about this today. FCPS policy for staff supersedes VA law.

People like this teacher are dangerously stupid. I weep for our country and the children in it.

What is her name? She should be publicly shamed. People should shame her here and picket her house.

If you click on the article in the OP, it's the start of the second paragraph, Sierra Collins. She gave her name, but asked not to have the school where she is employed identified. But she's a grade school teacher in Fairfax County Public Schools. That's easily available via Google.

That too seems odd. It takes all of 10 seconds to figure that out.

Hence another data point in determining Ms. Collins’ ability to make reasonable judgements.
If my kid was in her class, I’d have him removed right away because his teacher is an idiot.

Some of you still thinking it's a good idea to arm teachers?

I'm speechless. I just can't stop shaking my head. It feels like the twilight zone.

I'd be okay with the teacher because she might save someone's life on day. What she does outside of her work life is her business especially if she was professional before you knew about the gun. Her being a legal gun owner does not all of a sudden make her a big bad wolf.

She's such a bad-a** and I totally respect her!! Not everyone has to have the group think mindset.

For what? Why?

I’m as anti-gun as they come, and I have no problem what she does outside of school. She can legally own all the guns she wants. What I do have a problem with is her complete lack of judgment. How she thought it would be okay for her to go on the news for an interview where she states she brings a gun to her school parking lot and wears a knife (both in total violation of FCPS regulations) is beyond comprehension. If she is this stupid about this, what else is she stupid about? THAT is the issue with her.
