It warrants a talk with her. When the caffeine doesn't cut it anymore, she may try the next step which is Adderrall (and illegal if not prescribed), then cocaine.

Did you know the same could be said about Tylenol?

You can get caffeine safely through coffee. Is there another means of safely delivering acetometaphin to your body other than Tylenol? Why are you such a drug pusher?

That was my first post on this thread, to assume I am a drug pusher when I merely was trying to make the point that even relatively harmless things can be dangerous at high levels, is ridiculous. The dosage OP mentioned is equivalent to a cup of coffee, and not even a large one at Starbucks.

I give my teen a cup of coffee before her big tests. It helps the brain run more efficiently.

I have no problem giving my teen coffee. I would NOT get her started on taking pills, even if they are caffeine.

It's people like you with an irrational fear of "pills" that create a horrible stigma for people who need to take medication to function properly. OMG PILL POPPING! Careful not to clutch those pearls any harder. Wouldn't want the strand to break and the pearls to fly everywhere. Someone might think they were OMG PILLS.

Alcohol and caffeine is what killed John Belushi, no?

It was a speedball, which is heroin and cocaine, so no.

That post is so funny. I giggle every time I read it.

Glad you liked it -- not everyone got that I was making a joke apparently! Though with the baffling but seemingly sincere comments in this thread, I can see why...

My motto is my house MY rules! i would reseal, then ask her about it because you saw the return address. Maybe ask for a professional opinion (doctor or pharmacist) about caffiene pills. Keep in mind that your child choose to mail these to her own home and not her dorm or a PO Box so I wouldn't freak out.

I agree with this.

I also think it's curious that she had the pills addressed to her home, as though she wanted you to find them. Why not have them shipped to her school address? Does she really need them during the Christmas break?

Because she is not ashamed of it you dumb shit.

It's very, very hard to OD on coffee, very easy to OD on caffeine pills.

Also, have you considered that DD is using caffeine pills as a diuretic to lose weight and suppress appetite?

As for all the "she's an adult" poster--would you say the same thing if you thought your 17 year old were doing the same? Does the age of 18 magically turn your adolescent into a fully rational adult? And BTW, if DH were doing the same, I would certainly be asking him why he thought he needed a caffeine pill instead of coffee. You're family, you're a parent, you can ASK and have a conversation about it.

Because not everyone likes coffee

Wrong. There would be hell to pay if you were opening DH's mail. As far as 17 being different from 18, obviously the law must pick an age which is completely arbitrary. But it is the law. 17 is underage, 18 is an adult. Picking arbitrary ages is the only way the system can work.

She is trying to lose weight people. Get a grip!

Aaah this brings back memories of chewing no-doze and chugging diet coke during my first set of midterm exams at a HYP.

I survived, obviously, and learned that they made me feel like crap so I never hit the no-doze again.

Standard stuff for her to learn on her own, in my opinion.

Is it possible that they could be other stimulant type drugs that have been labeled as caffeine? When my husbnad was trying to get an adderall prescription, i found screens up about that kind of stuff. None of them said caffeine, but some looked like misspellings of other drugs.

Went ballistic on him. He eventually found a doctor, got the adderall, then realized it was making him have anger issues and a change of personality. He dropped it pretty abruptly after that.

The mail argument should be entirely separate. Even if opening the mail was wrong, the fact is OP knows now and needs to decide what action to take. Being over 18 isn't a good reason to not have concern for ordering pills online.

I have 3 teens and you all sound really silly--screaming about caffeine pills.

I think this is one of my favorite DCUM threads.

You opened her mail and found caffeine. The Horror!

Is she home from college yet? Have you "confronted" her?

What is the most sad is all the drastic language
- how about having concern and talking to you daugher
Anonymous
op, do you have an update?

At least once a week some overweight woman on here asks about diet pills. THAT leads to an addiction.

Caffeine pills are NOT addictive. You pee it out everyday. If you quit taking them there is no withdrawal. You simply go about your day.

Probably 95% on here are on some pharmaceutical and have their kids on them too. Wait until you all quit Adderall.
