I think the only "dipshit" here is you....please go educate yourself on what these pills are. You can also overdose on salt, hope you keep that under lock and key PP. She is an adult, not a child. Assuming she has more sense than you, I think she will be fine!

College kids don't overdose on salt cramming for finals, "Genius."

No student needs non-prescription pills to be successful. I would talk to my child about it, because if that is what it takes, something is wrong. These are kids not 40 year olds. All nighters are no big deal.

One or two here and there, no big deal. 3 or 4 daily, then adderall when the caffeine doesn't work anymore, is a drug problem. And college kids will absolutely use caffeine if/when they can't get adderall. so they get hooked on stimulants to keep going, then binge drink to "come down." Honestly, didn't anyone here go to college?

I think a majority here went to college and I don't know a single person who went from buying caffeine pills at the drugstore to buying prescription drugs illegally. It doesn't happen. Yes, adderall gets abused but it is not an extension of caffeine.

OP, if you had just gotten her that Starbucks gift card she wanted, you wouldn't have these problems, would you?

And yes, John Belushi DEFINITELY died from an overdose of caffeine and alcohol. omg

I think you should get your daughter into a 12 step program for caffeine addiction as soon as possible. And remember many AA and NA meetings SERVE coffee.

if your biggest worry about your adult daughter (and yes, it is illegal to open mail addressed to other people) is that she uses caffeine, OP you should sit back and count your blessings.

Snooping and trying to control her life as an adult isn't going to help her, and will probably just alienate your relationship with her. On the bright side, if that happens then your daughter can join the legions on DCUM (in a few years) that have terrible relations with their parents.

You shouldn't have opened the package no matter what the return label. You could have just asked her about it. She's not trying to hide anything or she would have had the pills sent to school or a friends house. Don't open her mail ever. Caffeine is legal.

I went to college, an Ivy, and while I took Vivarin I somehow managed to stop just short of prescription drugs, cocaine, and crack.

Why is your DD under so much pressure to feel the need to order these pills? That is what I would wonder. Usually parental pressure from early on. What you need to tell her is that it is ok not to do perfectly on tests, that grades do not make her life and make you love her. You also opened her mail, I didn't open my 17 year olds mail even after two days he didn't open it, and I knew it was most likely acceptance letter to college.

Anonymous wrote:She didn't need to order it. GNC has caffeine pills. Walgreens, Rite Aid, Walmart, Dollar stores, Freds, every store including grocery stores carry them.

I hate to tell you but she's an adult, she will take them whether you know about it or not, they are not addictive. they are legal. Matter of fact, it's better than drinking that Red Bull poison.

But, they are probably way more expensive than ordering online. She is in college, so cost is important. I can't wait for a post, "my mom opened my package."

Caffeine is a gateway drug to harder stuff, like heroin. I mean, think about how Jessie Spano turned out.

Alcohol and caffeine is what killed John Belushi, no?

Ha, ha, yeah sure, it was alcohol and caffeine, not heroin and cocaine, it does have a letter c in one of it, right?

This was my exact path to addiction! As a student I drank coca-cola, really non stop, day and night to study. Now in my 40s I decided that I needed more, stronger, so I started drinking one cup of coffee in the morning, and never touched cola again! I also sometimes add tea, and not just any green tea. I think my family is about to do an intervention to save me. Lucky me, I don't have the same "mail opening" mother that OP is, I am not sure what kind of intervention her DD will need her whole life.

I agree that OP shouldn't have opened it but please... it's not "illegal" to open a package that comes to your home.

Actually it is. It's a felony to open mail addressed to another adult even if said adult lives in your home.

You know you can overdose on water too?
