Alcohol and caffeine is what killed John Belushi, no?

So now you know your DD is risking her health to fulfill your need to have a child at HPY.

Time to have a talk about what is important in life, unless you guys also risk your health for prestige and money. Then you high five her for doing what it takes.

What is important in life is JUST SAYING NO to caffeine! We all agree then.

LOL, I have discs in my car cup holders that say "Caffeine isn't a drug, it's a vitamin"

You're kidding, right?

In case you at not, no, alcohol & caffeine did not kill John Belushi. He fatally overdosed on a combination of cocaine and heroin.

Are you kidding me? Is this a very special episode of Saved by the Bell?

Your high-achieving daughter is using the pharmaceutical equivalent of a cup of Starbucks to help her study at her Ivy League college. Be glad you didn't find some other kid's Adderall or a vial of crystal meth and call it a good day.

Also, don't open other people's mail. It's illegal.

Hahahahahahaha! Ha!

As drugs go -- and it is a drug -- caffeine is pretty safe. You need to take a lot of caffeine to OD.

I would address it as why do you feel the need to take caffeine -- that sleep is important.

(I drink between 6-8 cups of coffee per day, meaning about 600-800 mg caffeine).

I am not saying I would open my child's mail, but most posters here will sing a different tune when their child is in college and they are paying for it. My motto is my house MY rules! i would reseal, then ask her about it because you saw the return address. Maybe ask for a professional opinion (doctor or pharmacist) about caffiene pills. Keep in mind that your child choose to mail these to her own home and not her dorm or a PO Box so I wouldn't freak out.

Hmm I would be worried too. People can and have OD'd on caffeine. And I'd worry about her comfort level in taking more dangerous drugs.

Snooping and trying to control her life as an adult isn't going to help her, and will probably just alienate your relationship with her. On the bright side, if that happens then your daughter can join the legions on DCUM (in a few years) that have terrible relations with their parents.

Another +1.

My mom was a huge snoop in all my stuff even when I was in college and an adult out of the house. We have a pretty good relationship but it's led to me hiding even mundane events from her that I think will get me yelled at or a lecture. If that's the kind of relationship you want, by all means, freak out on her.

And yes, she's probably having sex. Butt out and trust she's win safe. Don't go accusing her of things you have no proof of, but just wake up and smell the coffee. Or the 200mg caffeine pills. Same diff.

I think pp was kidding. Many HYP degrees were earned with the use of caffeine pills. From what I recall, the biggest problem from overuse of caffeine pills is diarrhea. I'm sure it's worse if someone downs half the bottle but I wouldn't automatically assume that's happening.
