Found Caffeine Pills

OP-- are you okay with your kid drinking soft drinks and coffee? If so, not getting the difference. Especially since s/he could have ordered Adderall from an online pharmacy and didn't.

I think the only "dipshit" here is you....please go educate yourself on what these pills are. You can also overdose on salt, hope you keep that under lock and key PP. She is an adult, not a child. Assuming she has more sense than you, I think she will be fine!

College kids don't overdose on salt cramming for finals, "Genius."

They also don't overdose on caffeine....keep making up stats though if it makes you happy. Just because you didn't know how to take proper doses as an adult doesn't mean everyone has that problem.

I think it's totally insane that so many PPs think it's OK for their kids to take pills. Coffee is fine, and if you drink too much, you'll be jittery and need to pee a lot. But, if you take too many caffeine pills, you could give yourself a heart attack.

Then again, it seems that many DCUMers need pills to regulate their lives--sleeping pills, anti-anxiety pills, hormone pills, etc. I should not be surprised that they are projecting the normalcy of pill popping onto their children.

Maybe you missed the part where she's not a kid? She's a grown adult.

Right, but she's not independent. Also, I find number of pill-dependent posters here remarkably high. I went to Chicago for undergrad and grad school--and I seriously didn't know of a single person who took caffeine pills. We drank a lot of coffee and tea, but no pills. Red Bull was a "party" drink (usually mixed with vodka).

Being dependent has nothing to do with the fact that she is an adult and doesn't need help taking a pill. She is not a kid, period. It doesn't matter who is supporting her.

Drinking a lot of coffee because you need it is the same as taking caffeine pills.

I give my teen a cup of coffee before her big tests. It helps the brain run more efficiently.

Really shocked at the PPs saying that just because someone is an adult, they will handle medication properly. Yes, because an adult has never abused medication!!

Who said anything about abusing medication? Taking a caffeine pill is not abusing medication and there is no evidence the drug is being abused. This adult does not need her mother's permission to take over-the-counter medication.

Why take a pill if coffee is readily available?

It's very, very hard to OD on coffee, very easy to OD on caffeine pills.

Also, have you considered that DD is using caffeine pills as a diuretic to lose weight and suppress appetite?

As for all the "she's an adult" poster--would you say the same thing if you thought your 17 year old were doing the same? Does the age of 18 magically turn your adolescent into a fully rational adult? And BTW, if DH were doing the same, I would certainly be asking him why he thought he needed a caffeine pill instead of coffee. You're family, you're a parent, you can ASK and have a conversation about it.

I have no problem giving my teen coffee. I would NOT get her started on taking pills, even if they are caffeine.

She's a junior in college and you're opening her mail and freaking out about caffeine pills? You have major issues.

Alcohol and caffeine is what killed John Belushi, no?

It was a speedball, which is heroin and cocaine, so no.

Did you know the same could be said about Tylenol?

That post is so funny. I giggle every time I read it.

Being that she's a junior, we're not talking about an 18 year old, more like 20.

You can get caffeine safely through coffee. Is there another means of safely delivering acetometaphin to your body other than Tylenol? Why are you such a drug pusher?

If my parents had opened my mail I would have had more problems with them than I already did. Caffeine for goodness sakes! In my Ivy school, most of us were taking black beauty amphetamines. I could never have made it into a top 14 law school without them.
