Which Mclean elementary school is best for average and gifted siblings?

There are HS in Fairfax County that are already over 3000 and many with over 2800. You are not going to th win the overcrowding debate. Both systems are over crowedded and slated to grow even more. McLean and Falls Church are right next to Tyson's where they are project over 100,000 more people in the next twenty years and slated to build ZERO new high schools and middle schools and ONE elementary school. The currently schools in the area are already bursting.

Yeah, I would focus my efforts on relocating to Spring Hill or Churchill Road.

Spring Hill is too far from Chain Bridge as too far out for OP, however, there is a small sliver of Churchill road that is close enough to Chain Bridge.

NP here. There are no high schools in FCPS with over 2800 students now, much less 3000. FCPS is adding capacity to Langley and South Lakes, and has plans to build another HS in western Fairfax. Over time, if necessary, Marshall students (the school seeing the most growth near Tysons) can send students to Langley and then Madison, and McLean (which is seeing some moderate growth, but nothing like the growth at Marshall or the Arlington schools) can send students to Langley and/or Falls Church. In addition, the latest 20-year projections do not forecast anywhere close to 100,000 new residents in Tysons by 2035, either. You basically have all your facts wrong.

Yeah, I highly doubt the Board is going to approve allowing kids from Tysons to McLean or Langley. Those Board members will be out of jobs pretty fast if they mess with those two school districts.

Well unfortunately for them, there are less people who live in those districts these days.

I actually kind of think this is true. The Board is more likely to open a new magnet school like TJ to alleviate some of the stress on other high schools in the area (and give the county another high ranking school to brag about, which lets be honest, is a good "halo school" approach for the county).

There are fewer people living in the Langley district sending their kids to public school, and more people living in the McLean and Marshall districts doing so, but FCPS has any number of options to deal with growth in the latter two pyramids, given where it is adding seats and planning to build.

I believe Langley and McLean are at/over capacity already.

Langley is basically at capacity now. But its enrollment is projected to go down by 200 kids over the next five years and the soon-to-be-completed renovation is adding 130 seats.

Falls Church HS will probably pick up some of the students going to Marshall that have Falls Church addresses and could pick up some of the closer in students at Oakton or Madison.

Edison, Mount Vernon and Hayfield will likely pick up some of those going to West Potomac.

Buy yeah, most of the northern FCPS high schools are at or above capacity, making any attempts to rezone difficult.

Not really. Langley is projected to be at 83% of capacity in a couple of years.

Also, FCPS is also adding space at South Lakes. When that is finished, the western part of Madison could move to South Lakes, and the western part of Marshall could move to Madison to relieve crowding at GCM.

They have a lot more options that some of you want to acknowledge.

Langley's projected under-capacity is already being addressed. The Board already approved moving some families from McLean HS to Langley HS in order to alleviate McLean HS projected over-capacity and fill up Langley's under-capacity. It also made sense when the Board approved it given that most affected families are okay with the move.

Nothing has been approved for Marshall, Falls Church, South Lakes or Madison, all of which need to be addressed. The lines for these schools really should be redrawn.

I'm not aware that the School Board has approved any specific boundary changes between Langley and McLean. They agreed language about a potential boundary change could be included in the latest CIP as an option, but the language in the CIP had all sorts of caveats and disclaimers that nothing was set in stone. Couid you be more specific?
