Which Mclean elementary school is best for average and gifted siblings?

I think she is talking about the plan to rezone part of the McLean HS zone to become part of the Langley HS zone. Not scheduled to happen until after the current Langley renovations are completed. I think there are parts of upper McLean that for some reason are still zoned for McLean HS, so they can fix that issue and address the capacity concerns at McLean and Langley with one simple fix.

I don't think that has been officially approved, but I doubt anyone would have any real issues. Those two HS are basically right next to each other.

That's not a plan yet, just an option. Langley will have additional capacity, but exactly how it is used remains to be seen.

No, they're not. They're across town from one another.

DP here. They are 2.5 miles apart, same distance as McLean from Marshall as well. Oakton and Madison are the two high schools in the county closest to one another - about 1.7 miles apart.

Yeah, 3 miles is not far at all.

"Basically right next to each other"?? Exaggerate much?

^ Regardless of whether you view Langley and McLean as just near each other, or next door, the point was that it looks like Langley will be under-capacity by about 300 seats by 2018, and that can be used to address overcrowding at McLean and Marshall. The areas that could be moved include:

1) part of the McLean district zoned to Franklin Sherman closest to Langley (pro - short commute to Langley; con - widens demographic gap between Langley and McLean)

2) part of the McLean district in Vienna zoned to Colvin Run and Spring Hill ES (pro - could eliminate split-feeder situation; cons - areas are closer to McLean than Langley, widens demographic gap)

3) the "Westbriar" island zoned to Kilmer/Marshall could be moved to Cooper/Langley (pro - eliminates attendance island at Westbriar and Colvin Run is closer to these neighborhoods than Westbriar; cons - areas are closer to Marshall than to Langley, widens demographic gap between Langley and Marshall)

4) various Tysons apartment complexes zoned for Marshall and McLean can be redistricted to Langley (pro - finally adds some diversity at Langley; con - areas are closer to Marshall and McLean, creates a Langley "attendance island" in the middle of Tysons).

That Langley under enrollment figure is supposed to be addressed by the rezoning of the McLean households, bringing Langley over capacity (over 100% capacity) by 2018. Supposedly shifts around 450 students. Hence why the other poster said the Board has shifted focus to rezoning Marshall, Oakton, Madison and Falls Church HS to make these schools more consistent.

There is nothing specific even on the table yet. All FCPS said is that moving kids to Langley was an option, along with dozens of other potential boundary changes set forth in the last CIP, but that nothing would happen without a detailed study with public hearings. I think you are making it sound like far more of a fait accompli than it really is at this point.

Uh, no. FCPS is projecting 2189 students at Marshall, 2150 students at McLean and 1858 at Langley in 2018. If they need to fill up Langley, moving 100 kids from each of McLean and Marshall would do the trick, assuming the current projections are more or less accurate.

Lol, keep telling yourself that. The above poster is correct, Langley is taking students from McLean, not Marshall.
