That was not our experience at all. SPring Hill would be much further from Chain bridge and add 10-20 minutes to your DH's commute. |
I second Spring Hill ES, if you can afford it. Housing prices jump pretty crazy in that part of McLean. |
| The areas zoned for Chesterbrook, Churchill Road, Franklin Sherman and Kent Gardens are closer to Chain Bridge and DC. The Spring Hill area is further out towards Great Falls. |
OP here. DH doesn't like the house either. I actually drove by that house a few minutes ago. It has no yard and you have to cross a pretty busy street, Kirby, to get to the swim and tennis club. My normally frugal DH wants to get a very nice house. He told me he is not trying to buy a bargain house in Mclean. He said he would rather buy a 3 million dream home than this house. |
I don't know what happened, but I had picked out the best of the list and the link went back to the list of all the houses in the search. Just toggle through to the ones in your price range and you can see what is out there. In the $2-3M ranges you can get a very nice new house. Don't count on getting into any close by swim clubs anytime soon. They have waitlists that are years long. |
| Why would you buy a house for $2 million or more and send your child to public school? |
The local public schools are great and have more rigorous math and science options than the privates and it is very difficult to get into the elite privates and the commute. |
Why would you send to private school if you have a mortgage and are zoned for some of the best public schools in the country? |
+1. That, plus we see that the kids from McLean, Langley and TJ are getting into the same schools as the kids who do go to St. Albans, Potomac, Gonzaga, SSSA, and Flint Hills. |
+1. Homes off of Kirby, north of Old Dominion. Easy access to Chain Bridge Road and GW Parkway. |
I love how people meet one or two people from an area and then assume everyone from that area is the same way. Langley is full of all kinds of families. |
More rigorous science programs? Maybe in high school. FCPS elementary science is non-existent. |
| I'm not snobby, but I prefer the Langley-zoned pyramid. I don't think it is because of the prestige or value of houses. I just like the larger lots. I don't think that makes me a snob, and I don't think everyone in the Langley pyramid are THAT much wealthier than those in the more standard McLean HS pyramid. |
+1 I've never understood why some posters call Langley families "snobby," simply due to the neighborhoods they choose to buy in. We also prefer larger lots and more privacy. Also, our kids have been very happy at Langley. I think some people just hate hearing that.
