Epic Novelist here. Are you referring to the present thread? Because both long posts are in paragraphs so I'm not sure what your complaint is about.

Try to keep each parqagraph to 4 lines or fewer. It just helps with reading on the screen. (I'm not the PP you are responding to, but also am someone who appre4ciates more paragraph breaks. I don't know, maybe I'm getting old....)

You don't use enough paragraph breaks. Use more.

Not either pp. Epic in real life most people who go on and on and on get tuned out. The sight of your page- long posts are a visual turn off. My immediate reaction is ugh, ignore it just keep scrolling. I have a similar reaction when a boring, motor mouth in real life starts to blah, blah, blah.

Hello, this is epic. Ok, sure, I'll use more visual breaks. Not about to stop posting as much info as I want, though. You can read it or not, and I suppose I'm sorry to those who feel visually turned off from the whole page just because my long ass reply is on there. As I've mentioned (either on this or another thread) before -- when I write long posts, I'm usually writing for the benefit of OP, not to impress anyone else. It could be argued that writing so much turns off others who might benefit from my thoughts, so maybe it is good to truncate.

An author named Richard Yates said once "I was going to write you a short letter today, but I didn't have time, so I wrote you a long one instead." That has always made sense to me. Sometimes, when I'm pressed for time, it's easier to get all of my thoughts down and then press send than it is to go back and reorganize and edit. I guess sifting through the paragraphs is the price of admission for taking any of my advice. I'm okay with it if people don't read me!

That said, when I post questions, I greatly appreciate every reply -- and the long ones are often the most helpful. I often take it as a signal that the poster relates to the issue or might have good advice, since he / she has a lot to say about it. of course, that doesn't always end up being the case. Sometimes a long rant is just that -- a long rant.

For the others who have said things like Obama should give me writing lessons, or "no wonder men cheat," I can only assume this is some sort of goofy trolling since those replies are inane, don't make sense, and aren't even clever. And BTW, yes, gasp, I have heard of Hemingway, and while I like his one sentence style and think The Sun Also Rises is among the top books ever written in the English language, I don't care for many of his other works. Guess i like my sentences complex and my paragraphs long! Call me crazy...ignore me if you want...but really, why do you care?

I'd always heard this quote attributed to Mark Twain. It's also attributed (incorrectly) to Doctor Johnson. Blaise Pascal wrote something similar (in French) in 1657.

To be completely honest, I'm a regular offender with the long posts. I realize that they don't make for great reading for those of you who are just hear "for kicks" as one snarky poster put it. But the thing is, I'm here for advice and feedback and try to give that genuinely in return to others. A handful of us manage to actually give and get support on this forum -- we just have to navigate around and learn to endure the endless snarking and people who view bashing others as a good way to spend an afternoon. I don't always read long posts responding to other people's questions, but I do appreciate them when someone takes the time to write a genuine response to my own questions. I noticed that OP wasn't complaining about any long posts! So mind your own beeswax, cranky ass, and get outside and try to cheer up a little bit. The weekend is here.

Go get some real life friends. You know, the kind of people you can actually have a conversation with.

You are an ass who likes to throw out unkindness and insults behind a cloak of anonymity. I'll bet you aren't so tough without your "internet balls".
