Even if it means giving the President everything he wants?

It means behaving like an adult. Shutting down the government is not part of the political process. It is the equivalent of taking away the ball because you don't like the score.

+100. Cruz shutting down the government was pure playground,2nd grade material.

Actually, the American people felt denying old WWII veterans access to the monument in their honor was the epitome of playground games. More so, they considered it vindictive and cruel.

That is asinine and you are clueless.

What kind of an idiot would load a bunch of 80-something WWII vets with prostates the size of grapefruit on a bus to sit on a bus for a couple of hours only to find when they arrive at their destination that THERE ARE NO OPEN BATHROOMS AT THE MONUMENTS BECAUSE THE GOVERNMENT IS SHUT DOWN. Not to mention, nobody to empty trash or pick up (and prior to DC government stepping in there were rats and wildlife scattering trash from the overflowing bins)... Or the fact that there had been a spate of vandalism attempts on the memorials just a few months prior (oh, fine, let's just let people have unfettered access to trash them) Not to mention all of the other upkeep that keeps these places worthwhile visiting. Yet dipshits like you evidently thought there is no expense, no resources needed, that monuments and memorials somehow magically keep themselves up. You have demonstrated you have no clue about how anything works.

Insulting Veterans.... check... yep, you're a liberal.

Who does this?

These folk:

https://www.honorflight.org/how-we-honor-our-veterans/

What a bunch of assholes they are, right?

NOWHERE in my post did I insult vets.

But you seem to want to persist in insulting everyone's intelligence.

Again, where do you think the vets were going to pee once they arrived after sitting on a bus for several hours?

Seems pretty clear that even the basics elude you.

Bolded for your viewing pleasure. Do you know these men? Do you know this to be true?

There are NO bathrooms in DC? Really? The buses often have bathrooms as well. As do the planes that fly them, hence the 'flight' in 'honor flight'.

Do you really think the kind folk that take these veterans to see a monument erected in their honor would not have figured this out?

Look, you are just talking here but I was *there* at the memorials during the shutdown. I saw it all unfold, firsthand, for myself. The lack of bathrooms, services and amenities is why they curbed the honor flights during the shutdown. One bus bathroom can't handle it all. Have you even been to the Memorials? Sure doesn't seem like it. Do you actually even realize how far it is from the memorials to anything else? It's not as though you can just walk to a business next door.

Thank your classy president for that. And for the other VA crisis. Money for illegals, but not our vets.

I've been to the memorials. I seem to remember facilities on the Mall. As I said, these groups are charitable organizations and are good at accommodating such things.

You've also just proven how bad ruling exclusively from the top is.

The National Mall is federal. As such, so too are the restrooms. All of the "facilities" you remember there were closed down due to no staff and no Congressionally authorized funding because of the government shutdown. That also included all of the Smithsonians, National Gallery of Art, et cetera - along with the refreshment stands and museum cafeterias where visitors could get a cold beverage on the Mall. Regardless of those groups being "charitable organizations" they still couldn't legally volunteer to provide services like opening the restrooms and cleaning them due to things like the Anti-Deficiency Act which even Obama had no control over, and sorry, no, it wasn't at all something so simplistic as "rule from the top" and "Obama intentionally screwing veterans over" that was going on.

I'm sure you mean well but it's clear that there is a ton that you really are underinformed on, things you clearly do not understand about the shutdown, nor much understanding about how things actually work.

Yes, I'm well aware. To those that work for the Feds, that's all DC is. To those of us who live in the real world, we understand bathrooms exist outside of federal buildings and that people are capable of helping others reach them.

Please tell us where to find the restrooms closest to the WWII Memorial that would be capable of accommodating buses filled with our veterans and their families. Logistics are clearly not your strong suit. I'm pretty sure a Starbucks or McDonalds isn't going to suffice.

We're there any actual bathroom emergencies?

It's not about the bathrooms. The WWII Memorial is under the jurisdiction of the National Park Service and was therefore closed, as were the Arlington National Cemetary, Marine Corps (Iwo Jima) War Memotial, U.S. Navy Memorial, Korean War Veterans Memorial, Vietnam Veterans Memorial, Washington Monument, Jefferson Memorial, Lincoln Memorial, FDR Memorial, Roosevelt Island, Ford's Theater, National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial, National Arboretum, Smithsonian Museums, National Zoo, National Gallery of Art, Old Post Office and innumerable other federal sites.

You underestimate us 'commoners'. I know your federal salary comes with a 'superior' gold star.

Please answer the PP question, if you can. Where are the non-federal bathroom facilities near the memorials that would gladly accommodate a bus load of people? Oh, and the facilities had to be open during the government shutdown, as some of the small businesses in the area also closed their doors due to lack of foot traffic.

All are accessible, given they are not wheeling these folks in from wherever they are coming from. THEY HAVE TRANSPORATION - deluxe motor coaches equipped with (wait for it) BATHROOMS.

The whole fucking world doesn't revolve around the Feds. You people do understand that life goes on without federal facilities, right? Probably not - you need your paycheck.

These are federal workers responding here. Please be kind. Do not interject reality into their little worlds. Heads will explode.

Hah, you don't know the area or many of these restaurants. You have to be a patron at the majority of these seat down eateries. Others have signs stating for patrons only and not a public restroom. Some have keys that you have to request. It's to keep out the homeless from wandering in to use. The whole foods on that list, is this the one at 14th and P? I did not know there was a closer WF near the mall. There is a Burger King, McAdees closer to galley place, but I don't know if they lock their doors.

Stop your delusions. Not everyone posting is a federal worker.

Yes, all these facilities would refuse elderly from using their bathrooms - especially war veterans. My MOTHER was able to use a facility nearby that had *gasp* posted signs because she's elderly and people are humane.

Again, the BUSES HAVE REST ROOMS

You work for someone who then deny's you a paycheck? I don't think I'd do that....

Not only did y'all get pay from that shutdown, you got discounts at eateries and other bennies us 'little people' didn't get. Stop acting like you sacrifice.
